Hi all,

I have been downgrading my Garand and fitted an old spring I had, but it is jamming. The gears are shimmed nicely and move freely but when I try it with the cylinder & spring installed it jams.

The spring is a very tight fit in the piston - could this be the problem? Does the spring need to expand sideways when it is compressed? The spring I took out was a better fit.

Thanks

Ranj

The spring should move freely inside the piston. If it's a tight fit - replace it. All coil springs bow out slightly when compressed (especially if not allowed to rotate freely - hence bearing spring guides and piston heads) so it sounds like its jamming solid inside the piston, so cant compress to its minimum overall length.

I found another spring in a drawer and it was a much looser fit in the piston. All sorted now. Thanks chaps. :good:
