cheers mate! your a star!
removeing the orange stain today and was wondering has anybody got any tips on how to sand the recess in the stock for the sling, not mutch of a woodworker im afraid and it seems a bit of a pain to sand in the hole.i may try dremeling it but i dont have the little sanding wheels anymore and its an "i cant believe its not dremel " so standard dremel stuff dont fit the chuck ,all ive got is little diomond dust cutters.

I used my dremel, well draper actually with the sanding drums then finished off with small needle files on my gas version, the paint is usually undercoated white i found, think its just a case of using rough grade sandpaper folded and used in the recesses, takes a bit longer but do-able
"i cant believe its not dremel" did the job nicely, got the job done.now i just need to do the metalwork and cut the bolt houseing to shape around the shell ejection hole and a bit for the striper clip etc...
what do you think of the colour, wasnt sure what a real one looked like, all the pictures are in dlack and white

lookin good
looks a lot darker an redder than my gas version I did, I used colron american walnut then finished with a good few coats of hales gun oil
i like the darker colours ,im not really into the blond look so my customer gets it the way i like .looking at you'r picktures it looks like theres a join in the stock at exactly the same place as this one at the bottom corner of the butt,i wonder if its a coincidence or something in the manufactureing process.what base gun did you use for the gas one?

it was the standard dboys gas version, just gave it a revamp and rebuilt the hop unit
so its still a shell ejecter? how do you get on with it.i tried it a little when i got this one and to be honest it was a bit of a fiddle to get it to work at all, lots of play in the bolt and at least one shell in 5 didnt eject but to be fair this was a sping one so some small diferences in the bolt may help.

have never seen the bolt on the spring version, the vsr one Im workin on at the mo came with no bolt, cant complain for £60 , the bolt from the gas version doesn't fit the springer version, also the inner barrel is one piece unlike the springer which leaks like a sieve! lol
fps is around 450ish maybe higher on a hot day, never got the chance to crono it, but my mate said it hurt like shit when I got him square in the back from around 35m mark! that was after I stripped and rebuilt the gas bolt the shells are a pain in the arse though, just need to make a shell catcher of some sort, also replaced the dboys rubbish clip strips with genuine K98 ones! makes a big difference when reloading it!
lots and lots of linseed oil for the wood today.loads of paint stripper for the metal and plenty of birchwood casey black and blue to follow.

took the acm vsr hop apart, wasnt shooting right when I got it, either too much hop or none
turns out the hop arm is the biggest pile of poo ave ever seen badly moulded if you could call it that, its 2 halves glued together
also when its slid into the outer barrel theres no adjustment hardly due to it being too high above the hop
even the slot in it looks the wrong angle
anyways ave cut it down so it sits flush when off and packed out the nub that goes onto the bucking, will know if it works when I get a chance in day light to test it
In the mean time Im after a replacement hop arm just in case this doesnt work
i dispenced with allmost all the acm hop mechanism except the arm,nub and bucking ,mines adjustable from a grub screw under the sight slightly forward of the original dboys one.the first time i tryed to use the original setup part of it broke so i axed the lot,i like grub screw adjustment,it doesent seem to creep and finding the sweet spot is easy as well unlike levers that never seem to want to stop in exacly the right spot or two stots later they'v moved.

nice idea, might do this myself if the mod I did doesn't work
marui vsr mags arived yesterday and for reasons known only to the chinese they allmost perfectly didnt work .
the slot for the mag release was 1mm too low so the catch didnt engage and the bb feed catch was ramp was also 1mm too low, whats more on the clone mag you could see where the moulding had been changed as there was a mould line in the right place (must be some copywright thing but the chinese are not usually bothered?).so after 20 min gradual carving the release catch slot and the aplication of a small piece of plasticard to the ramp both new mags feed perfectly, but its still anoying as i'd hoped that the customer would be able to get standard mags to fit, instead im going to have to mod each one

will keep this in mind when I come to order some more, where did you order them from?
Gonna test the hop when I get home, hopefully not too windy round the back of the house
hop tested, seems ok,
results
.20 bit hit an miss
.25 better
need to try this sunday at our open day with .28 and .30
what other bb weight do people use in theres?
if you can order ones made by the same make as the clone vsr you'l be ok the new ones i ordered were tokio marui originals as they were so cheep anyway.
you can use anything upto 0.35 but i just use 0.25 as they give acceptable acuracy and good range ,if you go upto 0.35 then the range advantage is not so great but acuracy is better, its allways a trade off and you do what works for you.also consider overall power ,if you make it a battle rifle of 350fps then no more than 0.25 as otherwise you will be outranged by aeg's,if its a sniper of 500fps then heavier is ok.

will def go for the clone mags if possible
unsure yet what the fps will be as its not been on a crono yet, I can hit a back door across from my back garden quite easily and I'd say its a good 45-50m accuracy should get better if I try the heavier BB's
I have no plans to do any upgrades on it as its an acm clone, I also noticed that the handle and rear bolt part I got from BaggyPants are 2-3mm wider and wont fit the acm
maybe the acm version vsr is a clone of a clone
this is what I mean by the difference in the bolt sizes
got a lot done tonight
unsure whether to just oil the stock or not???
