looks brilliant very well done
very nice job mate
Started my K98 springer project today after receiving the parts yesterday from 'Toska'. Original stock has been chiseled out to take the working parts of the VSR, rear sight housing and magazine. Have yet to source a suitable barrel and awaiting VSR upgrade kit. Happy with the progress I have achieved in one day so far, however, not happy with the cocking handle as its the wrong shape etc.
not a bad day's work,looking good

original tanaka bolt avaliable here with other parts tony, just search "98" in the search box.

Cheers for the info mate but really dont know if these will be compatible with VSR parts.
I only meant for cosmetic reasons
Shall get photos soon, but I got my K98 springer from Warren at Shoot N Scoot. Brilliant quality, and shoots like a dream. Has spare parts from the shell ejecting K98 (just cosmetics), and a shoot n scoot stock. Need to double check what the internals are.
Will get some photos soon !
well the time has come for me to make one for myself as well as confusingly one for someone else as well.the customer build is going down the try'd and tested dboys-vsr route but thats on hold till his donor vsr arrives.mine however is an experimental dboys-vsr hybrid ,the plan is to use the dboys spring bolt but with vsr type hop, barrel and magazine's .to begin with ive tinkered with the stock dboys to gain 330-340fps witch with the trend for battle rifles rather than sniper rifles is bang on where i want it,the next part is to make up an extended shell (pictured not fully complete) that has a vsr shape nozzle end and to replace the part that helps shove the shell out for ejection(not sure of its name) with an additional hook to retain the shell (also pictured at bottom).with the extended shell there may be some power loss due to the extra internal air volume,im hoping that the improved seal on the vsr hop rubber will compensate but we'll see.now im going to hedge my bets by locating the vsr mag in exactly the same place as it would be if i did the standard conversion so if it goes tit's up then i can go to plan "B" and do the vsr thing.
you may well ask why im going this way? well to be honest i like the noise that the dboys makes when cocking as well as the more realistic bolt design.
this is what it looks like so far,not sure how much i will do as i want this as a spare gun for eagles over the Rhine so unless it looks like i'll defiantly get it finished then im not going to harm it beyond what can be reversed.

more done, finished the extended shell and fitted it,nice and gas tight.also cut down the vsr hop chamber to fit, needs a lot cut away but now fits, adjustment will be via a grub screw from under the sight much as the dboys but slightly further foward.
i'll be cutting short the original part that sits under the sight and holding it and the hop in with a single drift pin each in the original positions.
next is to mount the barrel as it was previously held in place under the sight assembly .

Oooo!
Like it mate! Excellent idea. Do you think you can make the Dboys spring system consistant enough to be useful?
the dboys bolt is fine its the shells, there's an "o" ring in them that holds the bb in place and as the bb leaves the shell it can pick up spin from the "o" ring a bit like hop but in an infinitely variable direction that leads to the inconsistent accuracy ,by taking the shells out of the equation it should be a lot better, not to mention not having to pick them up.

hop fully mounted and mag catch fitted.shortened and mounted barrel,i just used an m3 screw up through the bottom of the rear barrel band-sling mount through the wood and into the barrel, works really well and also sure's up the sling mount enough to use properly instead of the front of the gun falling appart .its now just the mag well to be cut into the woodwork re-stained.

Looks like a great plan to me!
Only issue I see is that with such a long nozzle it could be awkward getting it into the hop unit every time as I'm sure you'll get some wobble as the bolt is pushed forward.
Have you thought about putting the nozzle inside a fixed sleeve to help with locating in the hop unit?
the nozzle is exactly the same dimensions as the shell and the chamber for the shell is still in place and that centres it perfectly, what i seem to have a problem with is power loss due to the internal volume of the nozzle so i'm going to experiment with reducing the bore through the nozzle slightly, sounds wrong but i think i'm on the right track, the theory being that air is springy and the compression of the air in the nozzle is robbing it of power, with the shells i managed to get 330-340fps ,i have perfect air seals now but sub 300fps and the barrel is equal length so the only thing that has changed is the volume of the nozzle compared to the shell.

Ah yes of course you still have the breech...
bad day ,no amount of tinkering raised the power much and to add insult to injury i botched the woodwork around the mag catch
.its all fitted together now all be it with a piece of new wood glue'd in place ready for finishing and re-staining tomorrow.on the bright side i found a spring made for vsr's that's the right diameter (13mm outer 11mm inner)and should solve the power problem,i also added two more grub screws to the base of the spring guide as i thought 3 might be a little weak if i upped the spring,so im hoping this will be my weapon for eagles.i can still transform it back to shell ejecting if i want to as well ,the only thing i need do is make up a blank piece of wood to go in the mag hole and swap the hop and barrels.
i'll post up final pics tomorrow after a rub and stain ,but appart from a magazine it looks like a bog standard dboys k98.

Amazing work, I wouldn't worry about the 'bad bit' it doesn't look at all bad really, not even noticable.
Love it! Great work mate.
When you say low/tempermental fps rates, what are we talking here? Still over 300fps or dropped massively?
