Great work mate!
Any photo's about how you adapted the k98 cocking handle to fit the vsr bolt?
very nice looking rifle even if the pictures don't do it justice.

Great work mate!
Any photo's about how you adapted the k98 cocking handle to fit the vsr bolt?
Thanks! I used this:
Here is the guide as promised

Parts needed
Ok so here is the bolt
Now take it apart.
Here's the parts you need to keep.
Now that you have the bolt strip down, cut it, like below.
Next step is we need to get the metal stick thing to fit inside the hole in the saftey switch mount thing.
How do we do this? Simple sand it down till it fits. It should look like this in the end.
The deep scratches in the metal were made so the glue when it is applied will stick better.Next step is we need a spacer. I used a PVC tube I had laying around. Its the only thing I could find that would fit decently.
Done! Well with cutting the PVC tube that is![]()
Now we wrap the PVC spacer with tape so the bolt handle fits snug around it without wobbling. Don't make it too tight just enough so there is no wobble.
Now to put it together
Now put the bolt on.
Now put the spacer in.
Now put the end on.
Now for the last step.
Ok so you have the bolt assembled now what?
Buy some epoxy, I recommend JB Weld.
Mix it, make sure to pour the same amounts of each. You won't need to much.
Put some inside the hole here. You need very little, don't put too much on or it will leak out the sides and make a mess.
Now put it back together.
Make sure its lined up like in this picture below.
Now let it dry for 15 hours.Lastly buy a screw from the hardware store. Take the bolt with you to make sure it fits right and all.
I had one lying around. Now just screw it in the back,
and done.![]()

And that is the simplest way to attach a bolt handle and it works very very well too, better then some more complicated ways.

here we are again, this is going to be my last offering for the time being as Dadio needs a break and to play about with a few thing's i've been putting off for too long but before my holiday i have one final commission for a vsr dboys hybrid .
started today by milling the breech to fit the stock and milling the k98 trigger guard to fit snug onto the vsr trigger housing ,all went really well and it aligned nicely ,the nozzle on the front of the bolt sits perfectly half into the stock.
most of this one will follow my usual methods but i was so pleased with system for removing the bolt stopper i used on the No4 i just finished that i thought i'd try something similar on this one to make it easier to remove the bolt but that's a way's down the road.i'm also going to use my new design for the mag release catch as it leaves a lot more wood in that area ,always has plagued me when building these with the original catch as its just so easy to cut all the way through by accident and even if you get it perfect its still painfully thin.

got a fair bit more done today, cut down the vsr outer barrel ,cut down the kar98 outer barrel and made the adapter piece to join them ,cut out the fore stock to accept the vsr outer barrel .it all sit's nicely as an assembly in the stock now, next is to cut the mag well and it will be a functioning rifle and then on to a long list of cosmetic's .

did most of the milling of the breach , cut and fitted the dolt release catch , still need to cut the stripper clip slot.

well i've got a fair bit more done , cut the mag well , cut and screwed on the piece that extends the breech at the back for the rear mounting , drilled and tapped the hole for the forward trigger guard , the new screw replaces the m3 one that locates the outer barrel with an m6 one that holds the front of the trigger guard , it's now a fully functioning rifle .
things to do now are
1 cut the stripper clip slot in the breech
2 replace the bolt handle with the dboys kar98k one
3 make an extended bolt stopper and attach it to the magazine base plate
4 general tidy up
5 strip and stain the stock
6 paint the rest of the parts

finally got round to the bolt handle , as i've done before i made it so the safety works in so far as it locks the cocking handle , it still can be fired if it's already cocked but it prevents re cocking .

finished the breech today by cutting the stripper clip slot and other shaping of the breech top .also made up the sleeve that fits over the front of the breech to make it wider, painted the breech and barrel , stripped the woodwork down for ready staining tomorrow and remembered that i have not drilled and tapped the hole for the hop adjuster grub screw. after that it will be just re assemble and it's done. final pictures soon.

made up the easy remove bolt stopper today , it sits in exactly the spot that the sprung pin that located the magazine base plate on the dboys , so i incorporated the sprung pin into the stopper , this way the magazine base plate can be removed as the dboys is and above the plate will be stored a combined tool for removing the bolt stopper and adjusting the hop . in the picture i'm using pliers to remove the stopper so you can get the idea.

the asg should be ok , may well be a re branded jg , it just has to be compatible with standard vsr part's for when thing's wear out.

from the dboys barrel remove the rear sight , file it into a curve underneath to fit over the vsr outer barrel , the vsr outer barrel extends all the way to the upper wood hand guard , i usually retain the semi circular collar that goes over the upper hand guard when i cut off the sight. you can never get the rear sight to sit as low as it should so a little packing under the semi circular collar means it can still be used to hold down the rear of the top hand guard. some people just glue the rear sight on with a product called "JB weld" , i tend to screw it onto the barrel using the two pre existing holes toward the rear of the sight as well as using some glue.

i'd start out with the vsr barrel and see how it performed , modding an aeg barrel can be fiddly , you'd have to cut off the part of the aeg barrel with the hop window in it and crown it (put a conical returned angle inside the end ) and then cut the location slots accurately into the sides and the groove along the bottom , it can all be done but it's tedious work that needs accuracy , i have a lath and mill and it's easier for me but it could be done with needle files and a counter sink tool .
i guess it comes down to what you want the rifle for , 350fps and the range is less likely to be affecting accuracy, 500fps and you need higher accuracy from the barrel.

looks like a good start , the woodwork has a whitish under coat that does not take a stain , you need to be quite aggressive when rubbing it down otherwise when you stain it it comes out blotchy .
