I've been gradually cataloguing all my kit & guns and I've just got to my US guns and I realised I had never got around to chrono'ing my KTW Springfield.
I'd always got the impression that these performed really badly so I was pleasantly surprised to find in was shooting at 351 fps with .2 bbs, so power wise it is viable as a skirmish weapon especially as more and more people are downgrading their rifles so as not to have to worry about med’s.
The only issue is that you wouldn’t have seen many of these in the ETO except as rifle grenade launchers or sniper rifle, (although that has been open to much debate), so it’s a usable option if not entirely accurate in the context of the ETO, however if someone starts organizing PTO events I’ll be ok
, well gun wise anyway
.
so that's one complete marines loadout to add to the list

Just as this has been niggling me quite a bit lately - there is no need for a US marine loadout for the Pacific
You have US infantry, they were there too, more of 'em in fact. ![]()
But did they use the springfield and for how long? I know that the marines did for quite sometime in the PTO

They were used by both right through the war, not just in the PTO but in the ETO as well. Not as prolific as the Garand for sure but certain roles preferred them.
On of those Gunz experts will doubtlessly fill you in all proper. ![]()

For an iconic PTO loadout it'd have to be Marines, people wanting a Marines loadout isn't the problem...people wanting a Jap one is. Springfields were used in limited numbers during the opening weeks of the invasion of Normandy (ETO), although they still were used for launching grenades and sniping, mass use was soon rejected. One battalion (can't remember which specifically) whose commander didn't like the look of the new-fangled Garand, equipped his entire battalion with Springfields. Once they moved in to the Bocage they were soon equipped with Garands following heavy losses (must find that article so I can find out why they judged that it was the guns that were the problem and not the accuracy of their shooting).
Point is yeh, argue for people using an army impression for PTO, people will buy Marine loadouts anyway and if and when games are arranged see how the numbers pan out. You won't have a problem getting Allied numbers...trouble is there will just be Yith on the other side shitting his pants holding a bolt action with 40 guys with Thompsons baring down on him.
I hope the sudden influx of people wanting a Marine loadout because of The Pacific, isn't going to be met with the same attitude as players who decide to do US Airborne because of Band of Brothers...nuf said on that subject I think and I'll say no more on the subjects.

I have moved the discussion on Japanese kit/weapons/players problems to the Japanese section so we don't clutter up Pete's thread. ![]()
