thought i would have a go at one of these as im getting some u.s gear together. building it around a scorpion gearbox using mp7 mags and a mosfet for semi auto function. need to get the gearbox sitting 3mm lower but should not be a problem, pics so far.
looks great so far Jay, you can get the rear flip sight and barrel bands on ebay quite frequently.
looking to do something like this myself with a spare carbine stock i have. I have toyed with holding a custom battery inside the double mag pouch on the butt.
cheers webby.
yes mate got my barrel band off ebay quite cheap, and have ordered the front sight but might just make the rear sight.
im also thinking of the battery in the mag pouch as there is no room anywhere inside, apart from maybe under the barrel in the front part of the stock, but would be a pain for battery changes.
jay
If you can get it in the front, it opens the way for an M1A1 variant.
yeah thats what doc mac did for dog company's ones, but he just slotted the scorpion into the wooden stock, rather than stripping it down to the mech box.
If you need any measurements of the components on the top of the receiver, i can do a measure and scale drawing if it'll help

that would be great if you could please mate, was going to make it just by looking at pictures.
had a bit of time at work so started on the upper receiver, quite happy with it so far although
i have had to stretch the dimensions a bit to go over the gearbox.
IT'S NOT FAIR!!
I want one of those milling machines!
Nice work, Jay.
Jay, you really should go into business.

Yup, he'd make a lot on proper M1928 receivers!
I'd commission you for sure mate, been wanting to make one for ages!
cheers guys.
what would people pay for a full metal m1928 receiver?
solid ally not the cheap bolt together crap like azr.
jay
Gotta be at least as much as AZR charge Jay, probably more as I know you'd do a great job of it. I'd have one if you made any.
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
I would too. I'm attempting to make a finned barrel (already done the compensator). If you do make 1928 receivers, don't make them with the barrel mount sticking out like the TM/Cymas - that makes realistic finning impossible - the dia of that part is 0.8 inches, meaning the barrel min dia there needs to be 0.9 inches. The finning on real-steel barrels goes down to 0.7 to 0.6 inch dia there.
Make it a hole in the end, like the real ones, with maybe an optional adaptor for the TM/Cyma style barrels.
can someone please measure the barrel length on their m1 carbine for me, from the front of the barrel band to the end of the barrel.
cheers

Sorry we keep straying OT, Jay.
Also finned barrels and Cutts compensators - either for M1A1 conversions (existing owners of M1A1's who want 1928's) or for people like me who want both a 1928 and one of the hybrid thompsons that you see in movies (M1 but with finned barrel & cutts compensator but no forward pistol grip - Indianna Jones V for example!)
I'm working on a barrel (compensator done). I think you'll find the Indy ones were M1928A1s. These were late 1928s that had the horizontal fore grip. I'd need to double-check the receiver design on the movie.
no worries guys.
may look into how much work is involved for the receiver, but need to get my hands on a cheap thompson first
jay
glad to see it all done Jay, i will get round to finishing my M14 based carbine one day, just lost interest in making guns these days, maybee over the winter
