Hi All
Would there be any legal restrictions on the ownership/ use of a real steel (not from a deac) trigger housing from an M1 carbine as part of an airsoft project?
Thanks,
Ranj
I would think "no", as it's not a pressure bearing part, like a barrel or gas mechanism.
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Can I suggest if you ate considering doing an M1 Carbine that you look at the Denix M1 Carbine. Very well made, available from Platoon and SOF. £150. It's very good quality and exact replica.

Or you could buy my model gun which comes with a spare reciever (old Marushin sheel ejector) and airsoft ready barrel for the same price.

Tell me more.....
Its an old MGC model gun. The stock I believe is real, the reciever, triggerhousing and barrel are plastic with metal components. The barrel is post war version with a metal rod through it so its no good for conversion. I had an aluminium barrel made up without the bayonet lug that will take an inner barrel ready for converting, its just missing the foresight . The second reciever is as I said an old marushin shell ejecting one, pretty much full metal if I remember correctly. That has no rear sight but you can fit the one from the other receiver or get another (as the model gun one is a postwar one). All yours for £150.
Is the stock a late / postwar "bot belly" style?
Yes I believe so. The handguard is the four hole type too.
Lardy, I'm tempted by the whole lot but I did want to have an earlier model of stock so maybe just the receiver...
On teh other hand the dennix is only £139 now. Does anyone know if the bayontet mount on the Dennix is attached to the stock band and comes off, like the real steel?
(Mods, please feel free to move this to "ww2 weapons" if it would be better there.)
They do the early war version which is without the bayonet lug. That's the one I've got.
Sorry, I think mine was £140.
Really good quality.

Ah, so there is, I found it on the second page of results.
So how does the denix strip down compared to a real steel? Does the foresight come off so I could fit it to a new barrel?
I haven't attempted to strip it down and the foresight does not come off as far as I can see. My idea was to drill out the barrel, if I was going to convert it to airsoft. Obviously with it being a Denix replica there are certain things that would need drilling out and milling etc. If you want I could send you some photos if you want to see any specific bits of it?
Bare in mind you won't be able to tell about the stock because I've got the M1A1 Paratrooper Carbine with folding stock, but it is the early receiver and barrel etc.

I would think you would be better off making a new outer barrrel from steel or aluminium tube and fitting the original or (if it doesn't come off) a real steel sight, that is my plan. To drill that length you would need access to serious toolage and even then the ccore of the barrel on the Denix might well be a harder metal to prevent just such an operation. Drilling it might well get it hot enough to melt the pot metal that the outer barrel is made from.
Fair enough. Well like I said, if there's any photos you want, list em and I'll take them.

If the carbine is like the Denix SMLE it may not have a full barrel only the bit that's visible.
Ah, I'm not sure, I used to have a Denix SMLE and there is a lot more barrel visible on the carbine. Not sure whether it would be worth bothering stopping it then starting it again. I haven't taken it apart to find out though!

Will a real steel magazine fit the denix?
No. You get one with the gun, it is hollow with no mechanism so perfect for converting in to an airsoft mag.

Hmm, I might want more than one magazine in the field. Do you think real steel mags could bemade to fit the magwell with modification to one or both?
Edit: Seems that denix have a spare mag in their catalogue but I can't find anyone in the UK that stocks it.

I'm in the process of getting very shirty with Denix as their customer service is terrible. Apparently they do have a stockist but couldn't get in touch with them either. I'm waiting for a reply at the moment.
I'm sure that with some alterations a real mag would fit. Denix tend to make things slightly off so that you can't fit real mags in, apparently the Thompson is the same and M1 Rifle will not take an En Bloc Clip with inert ammo without modification.
