well, a couple of years back someone on this forum said you couldnt fit an M14 in to an M1 Carbine stock, so me being me, started to try, then, Harry Potter 7 &8 got in the way for 14 months and i made 2 folding stock AEG M1 Carbines instead. so now i am coming to the end of my work on Potter i decided to carry on with my original full stock, I have had it firing using shotgun mag,but still need to work a real carbine mag in to make it look better.
also i have some fittings such as the forward sight to make and fit.
although this was time consuming, it does fit!

will get some better pics up when it is completed

Looking good
Free speech is expensive these days!
Wow it's really looking great so far. Can't wait to see the full thing. Any major problems you came across?
thanks lads!
first major problem was 15 months of harry potter getting in the way!
i originalystripped and shaved down an M14 motor cage and took all the external parts off of the M14 gearbox (but this ended up in the steel .30 cal i made
i started cutting and boring out the stock, but just couldnt get down far enough to get the cutdown cage to fit, with the limited wood tools i own. so, I cut the stock and used a power file to open the hole and get the motor to fit with the gearbox.
next i doweled and glued the stock back together, sanded it and stained it and used a good wood wax on it.
then about 14 months went by as the motor was used in the .30 cal and was up graded
at christmas we had out Dog Company get together and i was asked by one of our guys to fix his Garand as it had a wiring problem, he also had an M14 tanker with wiring faults too, i did fix them both, and bought the tanker, which when i stripped down is almost the EXACT length of an M1 Carbine (when it is placed in the stock!)
so i then did some fettling of wood again in the stock and got the tanker in ok
I did have to cut off the top "toffee" metal section that is over the outer barrell as this is where the wood top cover from the carbine fits, the wood was hollowed out again with the powerfile and is screwed to where the metal cover was
Power!! so i was going to put a battery in a canvas stock mag pouch, but 1/ i havent got one and 2/ it meant more drilling of the stock and there is very little room there. So, i hollowed out the front of the stock with a drill and the trusty powerfile! and a mini 8.4 fits perfectly in there.
the only things i have left to do are
make and fit front sight
make and fit a front band spring clip, set the gearbox to fire single shot, (if i ever do a vietnam game i would set it back to auto) as i had to remove the selector mech from the Tanker to fit the stock
make a magazine out of an original like i did with the 2 folders i made
will get some pics when i carry on with it, so all that crap i just blurted out will make more sense!
Doc Mac
ok here are some pics i took today of the Carbine, its shooting accurately at bang on 300fps
I am going to make the front sight this week and mould and original carbine mag so i can cast from a semi rigid poyeurethane black foam and death glue them to some shotgunmags as used in the aeg garands will get some more pics when done
Very nice work as always, and good to see you back on the boards, mate ...................

This is going to sound rude, and it's not meant to, but why on earth? It looks like neither Garand or Carbine, more like the bastard offspring of the two. I think you've done a stirling job on it, great workmanship, but other than seeing if it could be done I see no reason to actually do it
You can't buy an AEG carbine that's why;-)
it's allways been my prefered WW2 rifle, it's lighter, easier to manouver with and even easy to use in urban areas. I have had 3 of the marushin gas ones and they just don't work well in our colder climate. And because I was told in a not so nice way it was impossible

Of course, if you can find a way to make it work with a stanag mag ......................

Ha ha! No I just silicon moulded an original carbine straightmag, so will cast them in a tough polyeurethane and glue them to the shotgun mags, that way the profile won't look so " bastardized" he he and they will be very low cap mags, will let u know how it goes joker

If you managed to get rid of the M14/Garand Rear Iron sight assembly and mount, you'd be a long way towards having a good shape for the Carbine Receiver! Nice job Doug! There is hope for the empty M1 carbine stock in my wardrobe afterall!
Hey Webby! How u doing mate?
I will look in to modifying the reciever later on, but it's Airsoft afterall;-) I wanted to do this with no machining, all I used was a battery drill and a powerfile and my mig welder, just to show it can be done by most hobbyists
will happily send you some better pics if you want them?

How much did you have to take out of the grip/stock to get the mechbox to fit, and how much did it weaken it?
I took some off of themotor cage then basically filed out the wood until it fitted, it will allways weaken it, but with the metalwork inside it's pretty strong
[ Post made via Mobile Device ]
So long as there isnt much gap between the motor housing and wood, it should be quite strong.
You know how I work webby!;-) it's snug!!

Precise engineering Doug! Thats how you roll!
ha ha ha, thanks Webby
here it is today, with the rubber mags glued to the shotgun mags, seems to work ok
