I was asked a while ago how I converted my MG Drum Mags to airsoft, so I have decided to put the info on here incase anyone was planning on an MG project in the future.
Here we have 2 Drum Mags, the one on the right is an auto mag using the internals from an A.C.M. 3000 rds electric drum mag for AK (plastic) and the one on the left is a high cap using the internals from a Dragunov short mag.
Above are the pics of the auto mag. As with both I have made a frame using ply and thin wood which I have attached the mag internals. Once the internals have been secured I have made the BB well out of news paper which has been soaked in watered down PVA glue which when dry makes the paper nice and hard. A bottle top secured to the top of the Drum Mag ensures you can load more BB's without removing or opening up the Drum Mag. I have fitted a cable to the toggle switch on the back of the mag which plugs into the gearbox Tamiya connector and the battery then plugs into the cable, this acts as the guns safety catch/switch.
Above are the pics of the manual mag. With this one I have made the BB well out of kitchen towel paper which once again has been soaked in watered down PVA glue which when dry makes the paper nice and hard. A slot has been cut out of the bottom of the Drum Mag so the feed wheel sticks out of the bottom. The beauty of this design is there are no batteries needed, just 'finger power'. Both mag frames are removable which is good for repairs and a close coiled tension spring is used to transport the BB's from the mags to the hop.
