Was looking for some bits for my 1022 and found this on ebay for

I've seen one of those "in the flesh" over in the US a few years ago. I'm damn sure it was only about 2/3rd the scale of the real thing. A great shame, otherwise id have bought half a dozen kits there and then lol
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
You are right about the scale of this kermit. Just found this info:
Converts a standard 10/22 .22 LR into a 2/3 scale WWII German MG42 M.G. replica with no modifications required. Kit includes a two-piece black composite stock, vented barrel shroud, windage adjustable front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight and a flashhider. Hardware and instructions included. For an even more authentic look or display, press a length of blank, linked .223 ammo into the left receiver port. Clamp-on style black nylon bipod is also available, ITEM#296870.
shame, could've been a tasty project

Hey, this could work. Why not build something that would fit on top of a AK47, and accept the AK47 drum magazine? I am pretty sure it could be build in 2 and 4mm black plastic with enough stiffness, primed with greyish autobumber primer and sprayed with humbrol metal cote dark?
If you look carefully, the AK47 grip is not entirely unlike the MG42 grip, and AK47 are easy to hold of. They don't even have to be expensive metal ones, perhaps the CYMA has a gearbox that could be upgraded if necessary? If the more complicated cocking handle of pre-43, not even very well made here, could be replaced with the later version, and the rear sights adopted from the AK47-sights, we could reduce complexities.
A simple massive non-detachable stock, and the battery under the feeder cover (nonsense, we'll just use the AK47 setup unchanged) A fix dummy belt on the left side. Perhaps a look-alike modern bipod, I believe that there is some German bipod that could be used.
But if not an AK47 magazine, or some reduced magazine to work up through the original ejectorport of the MG42, where to put it?
Incidently, what did the US kit cost? My guess is no less than 400US$, a kit for an AK47 should be way less.

Well that was an impressive necro post - 7 years!
efrimann, I'm pretty sure the AK has been used for conversions several times before - keep trawling and I'm sure you will find them.
I am at my desk, making up drawings. I'll buy one of the nice ones, eventually, but I'll only take it outside when the sun is shining and the weather fair. Too expensive to be thrown around. But I plan to make a sturdy and affordable MG42 with stencils, tool and shopping lists and everything else for everyone to copy.
To keep focus...
