Just a thought, is it possible that standard MP40 pouches were used at times as I assume the mags will be the same size.

I was thinking of converting a black leather MP40 pouch by adding the map case style flap, need to get hold of one first though :?

Chef, I was thinking of giving this a go myself. Would you happen to have the dimensions for the air holes on the barrel cover? I can see getting them lined up being a pain.

Hi, I scaled these up from the following drawing:-
-- attachment is not available --
The dimensions I ended up with were:-
Length: 175mm
Hole diameter: 8mm
Hole spacing: 20mm
These are at 45 degree spacing giving 8 rows, each row staggered by 10mm, giving 8 in one row and 7 in the staggered row, except the top row which has 7 instead of 8 because of the front sight.

I hope that makes sense :D if not let me know.

Cheers
Russell

I remember drilling all the holes in the sterling barrels ,had to make three , only tossed on in the scrap bin , I'd recommend getting an 8mm centre drill designed for a lath , they don't wander as much and won't blunt as easily , I killed two drill bits making the sterling perferations .

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.

I guess that was steel? I used aluminium which is easier to work with if you haven't got the proper kit  aluminium is also good for gluing if like me you can't weld, my car chassis is glued aluminium so if it's good enough for that :good:

Hey Chef,

Very nice work. I think I might have a go at making one myself. Excellent instructions and I think I'll stick with an ali barrel, it shouldn't take as long as drilling the barrel I made for my MG34!.

What was the width of the forward part of the stock that takes the sten body? From the drawings it seems to be around 50mm. I've been looking at pieces of hardwood on ebay big enough to make a stock and most seem to be 45mm wide., and I don't want to buy a piece that's too thin !

Cheers

Cheers chef, that's brilliant. Unfortunately, I sold my sten a few months back (hmm) so I haven't got a gun yet to measure the barrel, etc.! Next job, buy myself a new one from Poland :good:
