Currently working on an idea for a MAS-38/MAT-49 look-a-like, and have been looking at suitable mags ...............

Re the project on here, to adapt Uzi hi-caps into MP40 mag shells, does anyone know if a MP40 mag will fit into an Uzi magwell (I'm assuming that the mag will have to be 'reversed' for the feed nozzle to be at the correct end) ?

Not sure on the mags unfortunately but I have been considering a MAT49 conversion based on a Thompson.)

I like that Slick - mags look right, and there's a small space behind the g/box that would fit a li-po, iirc ?
Not sure on how strong the barrel would be, but with those £50 versions it could be a cheap project :good:

My MAT-49 idea is based around M4 gubbins (primarily because I have a box-full of bits) .....................

-- attachment is not available --

The barrel should be fairly strong, fab'd around either the normal inner or a strengthened version, with a cosmetic perforated shroud, and the mags would be located via a 9mm magwell kit; hence the MP40 mag query, as the Uzi mags look a little short (standard Uzi mag has been extended in the pic)
Smooth the top of the reciever to lose the 20mm rail, fab up a wire stock, and it shouldn't look too bad. Only problem, as ever, would be battery storage, so would probably have to use a battery sling.

However, for a MAS-38, the solid stock could be left on (to house battery :D ), a wood finish given to the stock and grip, the perforated barrel shroud removed, cosmetic sling ring fitted on l/h of the receiver and it should look fairly close .....................

Whilst the MAS-38 was only available in very small numbers, and as normal with French kit, used a non-standard cartridge, I believe that German garrison troops did use them in France, so if it was done well enough, wouldn't look too out of place, in a general WW2 sceanario ??

That conversion on the M4 looks good, mas38 was a bit of a rare beasty but as you say it would be ok for garrison troops, resistance etc. I was thinking of a sling battery on the mat49 as well. :good:
