hi guys,
with your infinate wisdom i've heard many tales of king arms mags being plain rubbish for the mp40
the king arms thompson mags i've never had a problem in over 2 years with them so not sure which company to buy them from.
anyway which are the best mags to get for an AGM mp40?
Tom

I've not had a problem with my box of 5 mags using them in the Sten or the MP40

Same here. Never had a misfeed or any sort of problem with all 5 of my king arms.
Dito.. No problems. I bought two of the boxes of five.. All ten have worked fine.. Well except for the two that fell out of my webbing and are somewhere in the under growth in Worthing..

Work fine in one of my MP40`s certainly don`t fit the AGM Bakerlite version for some reason work OK in the Black AGM one. Try before you buy ![]()

there is an issue of the feed hole in the mag not being in alignment with the hop,on some it seems not to cause a problem on others you need to slap them to get them to go all the way home and on a verry few they wont fit at all unless you mod the mag well plastic liner whitch is an easy job and solves the problem completely.in any case once properly inserted they feed flawlessley and other than the original mags of only 50rnds they are you'r only option.

Rather than modding the magwell you can file the mag itself, Barrie, (of Barrie & Anne fame), posted the following;
'I found that there was really no need to do any complicated modding of the magwell section. Just file a crescent shaped 45 degree chamfer onto the feed hole in each magazine, next to the retention spring bit, and they will fit and feed fine.'
I did this mod to my mags and they now work fine in my MP40 & Sten

work perfect in my sten, wont fit my bakelight agm mp40 at all

Must be an issue with the plastics moulds on the bakelite ones manufacturing line. odd. ![]()
Funny how people are saying they don't fit well in the AGM bakerlite Mp40's but do in the black ones.. Surely they should be the same.. It's only different coloured plastic at the end of the day.. Or am I missing something?? Possibly made in a different factory??
However I have two bakerlite ' look' AGM MP40's and the KA midcaps fit well in both of them as well as my Sten..

I think it depends which batch of MP40s it is. As Dadio says, on some they fit perfectly, others need a slap and others need the magwell/mags modding.
Mine require a slap and work fine, unfortunately it now means the metal low caps just fall out as the feed tube thingy has worn to take the mid caps. I could probably pad them with tape or something but frankly I only ever use the mid-caps.
I did have to prepare the magazines by spraying in gun oil and repeatedly loading and unloading some old BBs. They'll never take 100 rounds otherwise. Took about four complete load/unloads per mag to sort them out.

Martin, you should try one of No1-sonuk's mag catch fixes.. They work a treat and so easy to fit..

Ive had three issues with mine
1) Had to use a countersink drill bit to widen the feed hole so they would go in and line up with the feed hole smoothly. It took 10 seconds per mag by HAND - a drill will make mince meat of the plastic. This isnt always neccesary with MP40s and was more of an issue with my AGM Sten MK2.
2) After so many magazines the magazine catch area wears away on them (metal beats plastic eventually). You can either use duct tape around the opposite side of the magazine to increase the magazines thickness, therby pushing the magazine against the catch, or change your magazine catch to a more effective one. See No1sonuk on these forums.
3) Shite quality BBs will jam in them because they are double stackers. Once you find a BB brand that works, stick to it.
Hope this helps.

knew i'd heard it somewhere, have the bakerlite version unfortunatly so will have to wait untill the current project is done to clear some room on the work bench

Having had my MP40 apart many times, I'm surprised the Bakelite ones have problems, but not the black ones. As far as I can see, anything to do with the magazine is on the upper receiver assembly, which I'd have thought would be common to both.
some of the varyability definatly comes from the mags themselves in my experience from a pack of five 3 fitted fine the other two needed slapping inn, king arms probably have a whole load of moulds some better than others and its pot luck what proportion of each you get,you might get 5 good or 5 bad or a mix of both.i could be wrong but i cant follow why the bakerlight ones would be different as those parts have no effect on the magwell unless there's two separate productions in operation whitch seems unlikeley.
however a cautionary tale,i was working on one recently and found the large ally part that supports the hop and magwell liner had broken off from the main ally cylinder that the outer barrel mounts on and i recon it may have been slapping the mags in that broke it off,so some form of mod is better than the slap it in method imho.

received 5 KA mags today, all fit the bakelite mp40 ok, just a gentle slap, 2 or 3 times in and out and they slide in nicely now, same for my sten
Does anyone else have problems with AGM mags spitting out BBs at the slightest knock on the side? Going bloody crazy with mags spitting out all of its contents on reloads.
Why do you always carry that umbrella?
