My trusty AGM MP40 started misbehaving yesterday for the first time. It would fail to fire a few BBs, then spurt out 4 at a time. Removing the mag and clearing the chamber did not always make a difference, although sometimes I could put in a new mag and it would work absolutely fine. I have no idea what might cause this, nor if it could possibly be mag-related (I'm using standard lo-caps). Any ideas out there?

Damaged piston seal? Sounds like the mech is working fine, in that it's repeatedly loading bb's, but it doesn't sound like it's getting enough pressure to fire 'em out the barrel, then every so often the seal works and it gains pressure to fire.

Just a thought.

It's easy to test by splitting it in half, firing it dry and seeing if it's chucking out air after each cycle. It could also be a buggered hop jamming the bb's, possibly? This is all assuming it's not mag-dependent.

Could well be dirty barrel? Dust on the BBs, causing them to clog up around the tighter hop area, and then only releasing when the jam is pushed clear of the hop rubber by the reciprocating nozzle pushing each BB up and into the next in the barrel? Very similar fault as to when the hop is 'on' too much?
