need one want one guna make one.already well under way to be honest .based on a maruzen l96 springer clone whitch seems to be the normal route.this is going to be a bit of a rush job as i want it for red cap.i found i'd been adviseing lots of people to go bolt action and that i was also lacking .ive streched the bolt back behind the action ,cut out enough space for the trigger(leaves the wood scarey thin but its not going to be stuctural there if the pklan goes smoothly),filled in the recess on the top the bolt houseing with resin where the mounting rail used to fit, stuck the bolt houseing on the lath to make it round rather than the shape of a 50p coin ,cut down the outer barrel leaving only enough to securely mount the hop and inner barrel.
i'll post picks in the morning but as i was finishing for the night i thought id get this started and ask a question of you good people.
i got hold of an original front sight and blade but i wasnt sure i fitted the blade the right way, also not sure from looking at it how its secured to the barrel ?

Yup, you've got the sight blade fitted the correct way around
It's held onto the barrel by a screw that is inserted front left to right. The barrel has a horizontal hollow for this to pass through, thus locking it is place.

there is only one hole and that one lines up with the guard that goes outside it to clamp it on ,there is a drilling lower down that looks like what you are talking about but it isnt drilled all the way through, do you drill it yourself with the barrel inserted for good alignment ?

Oh sorry, I was thinking of the protector. Yeah, the front sight assembly itself is held on with a small 'key' and a drift pin that slots trough the front sight blade and into the 'key'. Parts pictured (NB: these are off of a No.1) :

well thats it so far, going to cut down the mag and weld it to the trigger guard ,ive shown it in the position in the trigger guard,it looks visually wrong to me but its a used mag and you can see the wear mark as the pic shows ,unless anybody knows better then let me know, its an earlier mag and a no4 trigger guard but i dont think that should make a difference .

The mag position looks about right to me.
Keep at it, mate. Your Bren was awesome.

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
this isnt going to be as detailed as the bren at least initially as its a bit of a rush job but the bodged bits are being done with a vew to re working at later date.the other thing is that im no chippy ,once you lop a bit off you cant just weld it back, means i ave to fink before i chop a lot more.

mag cut and welded to the trigger guard and stock mounting piece structurally complete just needs sculpting with epoxy putty.i welded a nut into a piece tube then welded that to the trigger guard ,the action is screwed on from the top and tapped into the same nut that secures the stock,it's rock solid .the trigger guard is screwed into the woodwork at the front.been able to sholder it for the first time and im getting that new toy feeling already.

the giant phillips screw in the back is only temporary ,i'll replace it with something more subtle later

Top Notch a per usual from you sir. You could make serious money if you decided to churn an exclusive run of a dozen or so!

wont be makeing any more for the foreseable future as when its done i've got to make a batch of sterlings(pratchets),or a flock of sterlings if you like,so whatch this space for the build project over the next few months.i know they are a marguinal ww2 gun but ill post it up unless theres an objection.after that then i might be open to offers on makeing some no4's depending on the state of my mariage,so far they dont seem to hard but i dont know if i'll be any cheeper than warren's (shoot n scoot) because you need a whole doner gun plus a lot of genuine parts that are reasuringly expensive and becomeing scarce.its not a problem to find a wood set but try finding 3 or 4 plus all the fittings and fixtures.

took the measurements from the bayonet fitting on my trenching tool then added a little cos its easy to remove metal.no bayonet lugs on barrel as yet ,takes a lot of tricky machineing so im going to remake the barrel later or maybe add the luggs .again the paint finish will later be re-done with birchwood casey ally black but for now will do.

just got to make a fitting for the rear sight and a cosmetick job on the rear of the bolt houseing
