I'm in the process of getting the materials together for a mk2 sten which some fella's is know are going to build for me with their new mill/lathe setup.

to save some time i was looking at getting an original stock and i was quite surprised to see that i can get nearly an entire gun for not alot of money from various US suppliers (guns have been hacked apart to prevent every being used again and are sold a parts kits).

my question is, how much real steel can I use before the law starts looking at me funny?

you can use all steel external parts as long as the airsoft internals fit! i am just starting to make MK II stens out of steel, but hand made

fantastic, I've found a supplier who sells complete receiver tubes all marked up for machining $30!

also i can some other complicated to make bits such as the mag housing which is easy to modify as the rs mag is actually sightly longer (back to front) than the mp40 mags i was planning on using.

Hell, they might not even export it from the US (due to ITAR regulations), and thats before HMR&C start asking questions about why you're importing a receiver blank thats marked up for machining into a live STEN receiver

"Of course its for an Airsoft gun Sir, we believe you......"

Don't get me started on parts. Do a search please, this topic has been covered in quite some depth before.

Regarding "parts kits" These are demilled to US BATF standards. They do not conform to British de-ac standards, and they contain a LOT of parts that are still usable, and would be illegal to hold under UK law unless you had the correct licensing. Trigger group, barrel, etc etc.

In short, It's a Very. Bad. Idea.

A lot of the parts from a real MkII sten are pressure bearing and hence not usable at all on an airsoft sten.
You can't use the receiver, barrel, trigger mech, etc... which is most of the fecking gun anyway.

The safest thing to do is make it all from scratch.

That's what my blank firer is... Its ALL made from scratch...

If you have someone who is set up to work with metal, you may consider making them yourself. Find some Sten schematics and the right diameter tube and you're 50% of the way there.
The skeletal stock for the MK2 is available reasonably cheaply from Saracen Exports and apart from that you've just got to think about the mag release and a very short barrel.

This debate is had over and over again, the simplest thing to do is do a forum search before you post to check whether it's been covered.

Simple answer is don't use real guns to make airsoft guns whether they be in parts or de ac. End of.
Apart from anything no one wants to see someone plastered across the news who has done it and been caught, because it brings our sport in to disrepute and gives the government a reason to ban it completely.
That's all I have to say on the matter.

there is no reason that you cannot use some parts from a real gun!! we use direct replicas anyway if is an airsoft inside there is no problem, but will be a lot of extra work, which as i said earlier is why i am scratch building mt MkII's :good:
