Right so, today at UCAP Sandpit, I managed to snap the bipod on the MG42 (had always been identified as a weak spot), that'll teach me for trying to set up an MG nest in some sort of heroic fashion!

So would sourcing an original bipod to use instead be allowed under the ol' rules?

The bipod isn't part of the firing mechanism so a real steel one would be legal.
