OK, so I'm thinking about buying a No4 Lee Enfield but I was just wondering what people think of Shoot and Scoots version. I know they look great but I'm just worried about the quality and replaceability of the internal parts. I believe the donor gun is a Varmint which uses a lot of proprietary parts.

Ralph
Only ever seen and heard good things, if I recall correctly Martin has one and he seems to be able to shoot well with it. I did borrow one at a game and it was very nice, the only reason I didn't buy one is because I wanted to make my own anyway I'll stop interfering and let someone who's actually got one reply
I might invest in one then. I wonder if it's possible to take out the varmint parts and simply drop in a vsr internal.

Ralph
in a word no you can't swap out the parts for vsr as the varmint is a lot smaller in diameter so it fits ,i try'd to use some S+S parts on a vrs build a couple of years ago ,it was not possible .

I'd really reccomend the SnS rifles! Having seen them being made I can vouch for the quality of the beast and the amount of workmanship which goes into them. The range is fantastic and is a generally reliable gun out in "the field". The No4 T is a thing of beauty too... My SnS SMLE was the best rifle I've ever had so far.

I am mixed - I have a N.4 and the wood is very soft! The range and fps are good. What really bugged me the most is the sticky resin receiver over the bolt.
I have both the No4 and SMLE from S&S. Good quality and workmanship. There are parts of the Varmint gun that can be changed for VSR parts just not all. I'd suggest buying a m95 or m100 Spring if you can find them as the spring in it is cut down to make it fire 350fps which makes it noisy and makes the draw a bit odd. Also it's worth spacing the inner barrel as it improves accuracy massively, simple to do, just takes a little time to get it right.
Something I haven't done yet but will next year is a dead centre modification on the hop unit, the hop adjuster in it (and VSRs in general) are subject to flexing when the piston fires making the shots change.
There are minor cheap fixes so don't detract from the guns "out the box".
I'm also not too keen on the moulded rubber receiver, took it off the SMLE. Instead I'm going to get new ones 3D printed by a mate, should make them look crisp and a bit more realistic.

Still on the fence with this. As the receiver is rubber I imagine it would suit a scope mount very well. I was planning to use it as a sniper rifle in skirmish games too.

Warren usually sends the weaver rail with it, you sacrifice the faux rubber receiver to mount a scope rail, get the right looking scope it'd hid the fact the mounts modern.
Gives you options, you get both and can change at will.

Could do. I'll think about it but I'm starting to seriously consider building my own vsr lee enfield. Looking at a few examples I've found on Google think I could pull it off.
My original plan was to have a bolt action that I can use for ww2 games with a low power spring and a high power spring for skirmishing.
EDIT: Reconsidering building one myself now, not sure if I'll have the spare time to do it with exams, essays and work. Maybe one day.

If you have anyone who can do the woodwork, let me know. Want to make a No5 Jungle Carbine for Sheri based on the CO2 powered VSR, got all the parts just need to find someone who can make the woodwork blanks.

Will do.
I've ordered a g spec vsr so it looks like I'm going for this now. I've got an old shoot and scoot Lee Enfield (originally an aps2) which I will hack apart and use. Once it's all fitted to the enfield wood work I'll start the process of upgrading the internals.

Ralph
shoot n scoot use the aps2 and varmint deliberatly because the cylinder is a smaller diameter than the vsr ,it has to be that way to get a really good fit into the woodwork ,your going to find it quite hard with the vsr ,i've done a few and its possible ,if i was going to make the best no4 rifle i could i'd use the vsr hop and magazine with an aps bolt and trigger ,that mean extra cost though.

Indeed, in my ignorance I used an AGM with a narrow cylinder for my No4 (I actually thought is was a VSR clone) and as a result the receiver is exactly the same dimenions as the real one. No chance of that with a proper VSR clone.
