I've done quite a few Sten mods now, several of which revolve around battery access. My first Sten mod some people on here may remember as the temporary MkV kit. This had a buttplate that could be rotated to replace the battery. Although the MkV is a stunner, for most games it wouldn't technically be 'correct' and it isn't quite right for re-enactment.

I personally wanted a loop stock, and made a flat steel one with a battery clip, concealing the stick battery in a canvas sock.-- attachment is not available --.

I did do a pistol grip, but I'm still at a loss of how to fit a battery in it!

Recently I did a Safety switch, which may interest people whose sites require a safety catch! https://youtu.be/o-fzO_jxpVs

And recently I fancied using the T-stock for a few games but didn't want to have to use a tool and an easy to lose screw to change batteries in the field. So I made this knurled head bolt so that it can be screwed and unscrewed by hand and, though I say so myself, looks a damned sight better than the hex head screw!

I'm working on a MKI Sten kit, but thought these may interest you all for now...

When I fitted a skeleton stock to mine I put a LiPo battery in the reciever tube behind the gearbox, this is where the original Viva stens had their batteries.

Ditto.

If you want to use your pistol grip stock or your loop-frame stock without large batteries in canvas pouches, try using a LiPo in the body - search these forums for the topic discussing the best LiPo sizes/dimensions for doing so.

Cheers fellas, trying to avoid switching over to lipos just yet. One day I will when I have the funds to!

Actually they're quite cheap. The most expensive purchase is the charger, mine set me back 40Γ’β€šΒ¬ (~31 £). The batteries themselves are way cheaper than the old NiHM in my experience (try shopping at RC-stores, just swap out the connectors yourself and save a bunch of money).

Why do you always carry that umbrella?

I agree, the charger I bought, which would do any sort of battery, was £19.99 and the actual batterys, (i.e. ones that will fit the sten), were about £7 or £8 each.

How much are you looking to charge for the Knurled Bolts?

Maybe tempted into a stock once I finish my load out.

Liking the knurled bolt, looks authentic and practical too. Would be interested in one but would have to be less £'s for me to justify it, although I appreciate the time and workmanship that would be required :good:

How much would you be willing to pay? That was just a stab in the dark tbh, and if I am making a batch cost goes down of course!

just to throw in my 2p worth ,there's an easy way to make em easily and quickly ,could save Dom time and customers money ,just buy in a length off studding of the correct thread size and cut it to length ,then make the knurled knob in long lengths with a threaded hole internally ,part off lengths of the knurled knobs ,thread them onto the cut lengths of studding and just secure with a blob of weld on the end ,it would be a hell of a lot quicker than making them in one piece and keep them to maybe ten quid ish delivered and still be worth his time to make .

Cheers mate, that's pretty much what I did, though only one a one-off. I hadn't thought about using threaded rod though so I'll look into that!

studding is pretty cheap ,way cheaper than cutting up screws and way quicker than cutting a thread onto a rod yourself.
