I have noticed a few threads re. WE and TANAKA LUGERS regarding their various merits.
For those of you with Tanaka Lugers you can safely run them on green gas with a slight modification. If you did not know, there is a company based in Canada called `Airsoft Innovations` who have been supplying a `gas flow restrictor` for Western Arms`gbb pistols, which allows the safe use of green gas in these guns. What the restrictor does is slows down the gas flow enough to prevent the slide from slamming into the rear of the frame yet still gives the increase in M.V. that you get with green gas. I have a W.A.Para-Ordnance pistol that has fired in excess of 17,000 rounds now with this mod, no problem.
Unfortunately, `Airsoft Innovations` do not make a restrictor for the Tanaka LUGER, so I made my own. It has worked perfectly for the last 6 months, giving an m.v of 280-290 fps ( stock was 245) with the recoil associated with 134a.
You do have to be fairly competant at mechanical surgery to do it though. See `Airsoft Innovations` web site for their video of fitting their gas flow restrictor to a W.A. pistol. Since the Tanaka Luger uses a W.A. blowback unit the details are still valid, although the blowback units are externally different, the process is almost identical.

The cost of converting your Tanaka luger is.... zilch, nada, nowt`. As there is no kit made for this pistol you have to do it yourself. The restrictor is merely... A WASHER. Yes, a small washer that fits inside the blowback unit.The washer has to be a snug fit in the blowback cylinder and has a central hole of approximately 1.5 mil.. Then you have to shorten the valve stem by about 2 mm. Have a look at the `airsoft innovations` web site for a video of the conversion on a W.A. pistol.
Obviously this is a lot cheaper than buying a new W.E. Luger, although if you need an excuse to convince your wife you need another pistol..... then the lack of green gas compatability of your Tanaka pistol is entirely justified. Anyway you can`t have enough pistols, IMHO.
In answer to your second question re. my avatar, yes I am also REAL shooter. Although I should say `used to be`,.Since the firearms restrictions after `Hungerford` then `Dunblane`, and the compulsary confiscation of most of our weapons, I finally gave up the fight and surrendered my F.A.C. in 2000. That`s when I discovered airsoft guns , and have a nice collection. Now even this small scale shooting sport has been affected by the V.C.R. bill. Has all this banning of legaly held firearms had an effect on armed crime.??? you bet it has ... death on the streets has rocketed.!!! .
