Hi guys, looking to finally get so Airsoft stuff in my Vickers.
I have a a&k m249 gearbox that I want to put with a ak hop. What do I have to do to make them work together? Should i put a shorter ak nozzle in ?

Cheers Dan

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but you need to match the nozzle to the hop unit, so AK nozzle with AK hop.

Regards,

Ralph

m249 uses a side loading hop unit its like a cylinder. It does however use version 2 air nozzle which is a M4 so a M4 hop may work

Stick with the ak hop unit,it has two mounting holes so you can screw it solidly to something,a godsend with custom builds.
M4 hop units locate in the Inner barrel with two tenons to supposedly hold it in place, but it never
works that well there is always small amounts of movement, forwards, backwards,up down, left right.
It may only be fractions of a mm,but its the root of many m4 shooting and feed issues.
I have an spare ak nozzle if you need one

In my Vickers I use a Ver.01 gearbox (up-side-down, so that it doesn't poke out of the bottom of the receiver) and the original FA-MAS hop it came with (albeit mod'd to be top-ish [well, 45 degree] feeding) "floating" on the end of the barrel with a spring holding it tight against the nozzle-end/gearbox front, as originally mounted in the FA-MAS (and as seen in other TM guns, i.e G3/MP5/G53 etc...). There is mechanical 'blocks' to stop it rotating (as like in TM guns, usually a slot which the feed tube rides in).

Its usually best to have the gearbox and hop from the same gun as it eliminates these problems but failing that then the AK nozzle is a good starting point to try ,it depends on how the hop sits on the gearbox .
The best way I have come up with is to make sure the piston is fully forward and put the hop and barrel in place ,if you have to push it in place the nozzle is too tong, if it fits then try blowing hard down the barrel and listen for air leeks ,if there's a leek at the hop then the nozzle is too short ,it relies on w good piston air seal though.

As an ak nozzle is shorter than the m16/m4 one ,it could be possible to shorten the one you have..
I can measure how far the nozzle needs to extend from the front of the gearbox casing (if using ak hop unit)
with the tappet Plate fully forward. If you need that dimension let me know, then you will not have to split your gearbox
Or buy any parts.
If you go to a shop called Airlab, look for the Lonex nozzles for sale,it lists the total lengths of nozzles for all
Common TM gearboxes.Although bear in mind the datum for the location of the nozzle is from the groove
the end that pushes in the BB's, and in my opinion the critical measurement is the length of nozzle extending
from the front of the gearbox, and that filing the front of your tappet plate and so increasing this dimension so the nozzle
extends further in the the hop rubber, and also increasing total tappet plate travel can dramatically improve airseal on many guns.
Trust me ,done it loads of times and it works
