Hi guys im new to all the ww2 scene and am wondering what to do about a main gun. I've already got a 1911 as my sidearm and am wondering weather the best option is to get a cheap thompson and fix the internals up, or spend 200plus on one that should work out of the box.

suggestions or anything else would be great, thanks guys =]

Hi there new person!

If by 'cheap' you mean the Cyma (chinese) Thompson, then they work really well straight out of the box, and don't need anything doing to them at all. They even fixed the TM problem of the weak point on the barrel!

get a cyma thompson, and upgrades

new motor, short shaft ( i think ) general good makes like systema ect.
m105 spring to get it too a safe fps
seriously get a new TM hop unit
wood kits look pretty nice, but the grips are very thin, and the foregrip requires some adjustment.

then you've got a pretty good thompson :)

or you could just get a TM and get an m105 spring, and youve pretty much got the same, and the wood stocks fit well, apart from the grip as before.

Now a 'namsofter. I have an M72 L.A.W. for sale for 110 posted, PM if interested.

i honestly wouldn't say any of that was needed with the Cyma, apart from clipping/replacing the spring to drop it 10-15 fps, and obviously using a decent battery.

Just clearing out all the gunky grease and crap inside it is plenty good enough to get it firing accurately and consistently.

Cheers for that fellas, heard some good reviews about the TM one before, so time to get searching!

as with the wood kit would that not go manky after a while? only ever used plastic or metal bodys on my guns before but would make it look pretty darn cool with it in full metal and wood

Have you checked out the kit guides at the top of the page, they'll give you lots of ideas for what to get and where to get it, if you're after a very cheap look just to start with, then any green army trousers & shirt or jacket along with a suitable belt and an M1 helmet and that'll be enough for an acceptable 'looks like' set up.

cyma ones arnt that bad at all, but i find the motors are very cheap and not brillant quality, so if you would want a gun that will never let you down get a new motor.

And if you get a TM one I can provide you with a fix kit for the barrel (for £15) for when it inevitably breaks. ;)

/End shameless plug.

My TM one has lasted me about 6 years. Other than it looking like Frankenstein's gun because of all the structural repairs I've made, it works as well as the day I bought it.

My advice is to not spend money on any upgrades at all initially. As and when the AEG breaks and you have to open it up, that's the time to fit any upgrades. If you buy the Cyma Thompson, all you really need to do is give the barrel, hop and hop rubber a damned good clean and ensure that the motor is adjusted properly. I did this to mine and it's never skipped a beat, even outshooting some upgraded guns! With the Cyma, the fake wood is very good, so, you don't even need to spend money on a wood kit to start with.

Don't fall into the trap that many new players do, thinking that you have to spend a fortune on guns and kit in order to fit in and "be competitive". That most definitely is not what CiA are about! It's about having fun and getting stuck in.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

I had to put a 1J spring in mine before using it - it was too hot out of the box for my local site.

The cyma is a great gun in many ways but a smal problem many have is with the dummy cocking bolt falling off.

If you ever fit a wood kit maybe keep the plastic hand grip so choose wood that will fit in with the grip. :good:

A TM will shoot about 280 fps out the box and a cyma 350 to 370.
