Definitely sounds like the trigger contacts. If you're cracking the gearbox to sort this, do yourself a favour and drop in a MOSFET as well.

You don't have to "crack the gearbox" to get at the trigger mechanism on the V6 - It's a separate block screwed onto the outside. This means you can mess with the trigger without opening the main box, and all the spring hassle that goes with that. You will have to remove the box/trigger assembly from the frame, though.
Remember to not lose the tiny selector lever detent springs and pins when you take off the levers. The grub screws on the levers need a 1.5mm hex driver or allen key.
