Yeah I've even had the pic checked out by a Jap re-enactor (the only one I know of in the UK)
He says that they're pretty good replicas (he has a real one)... The late one is most appropriate for WW2, but it has the wrong grips on it.

Yup... I just checked with my re-enactor friend and that's absolutely correct...
After December 1939 they switched from 25- to 17-groove grips
BTW he doesn't have a real one... what he actually has is a replica made by Hudson. That also has the incorrect 25 groove grip.
