Anyone know how different/similar an SMLE and No.4 front sight band is ? Visually they look fairly similar, apart from a different placement of the screw hole, but I'm going off internet pics.
Basically, can I use a N0.1 SMLE sight band on the front of a No.4 and get it to fit in the No.4 sight guard ?
I can get hold of a No.1 sight at the moment but I can't track down a No.4 one cheaply, but I wanted to check before I spend more money on something that won't fit !
Do you mean the actual thing that the sight blade fixes to? (as shown in the third post down here: http://parallaxscurioandrelicfirearmsfo ... ight-blade)
If so, no, they are different sizes. I had this problem with my SMLE when I fitted a No4 one to it, because I couldn't find anything else. The SMLE one is a lot smaller than the No4 and I had to carve off quite a bit to get it inside the SMLE front sight enclosure.
However, you're doing the opposite, so may be okay!
Have you tried DS solutions http://www.ds-solutions.co.uk/index.php they don't list them on their site but they do have them as I got a couple at Beltring, (in fact they have a huge amount more than they list on their site), can't remember how much I paid as I bought a whole load of stuff at the same time but I was well pleased at the total cost so it shouldn't be too much.
Also where are you getting your SMLE sight base from as I'm after one.
