okay, this has happened to me for the past 2 skirmish day's
i have fully charged up 2 different batteries on a fast charger.
one is an 8.4 3700 MaH NiMh
the other, 9.6 4600 MaH NiMh.
in my bar, the 8.4 lasted only 20 minutes in a warm up game, the 9.6 only lasted about 5 minutes on a normal game.
so, with both batteries i went through 3X190 round mags and both FULLY CHARGED batteries were dead.
anyone got an idea what the problem is?
the batteries have worked in it before, do you think its a naff charger?
any help appriciated.

Sounds like they aren't charging fully to me. Definitely try them on a different charger. Also, what spring have you in the BAR? Bigger springs drain batteries quicker (albeit, they shouldn't drain that quick!).

got an m105 in it. so i doubt thats the problem. but yeah, i'll try a different charger.
cheers, Tom.

Definitely not your spring then! I've had problems with NiMh's before. I just charge them once, then whack them on again. If you've got a "cut off" or "peak detection" charger, it will prevent over charging anyway. A good indicator is that your batteries should be warm to the touch when the charge light comes on. Hope this helps.

yeah, i charged them up on saturday morning at the site, on a fast charger which auto cuts off when charged.
they were both pretty warm when i picked them up, and they only lasted for 20 minutes and less.

That's weird. NiMh batteries don't have a "memory" like NiCad's do. I'd still go with a dodgy charger, especially if the power source for the site charger was suspect in any way. Far better to do a proper, slow charge the day before than a quick charge at the last minute on site.

Might be a wiring fault in the gun.
Or a partially seized motor/gearbox.
That's a good point. Tom, have you tried the batteries in a different gun? That might help you narrow down where the fault is

i havnt as of yet as i havnt had the spare time to get my screw driver out. (takes ages to change a battery in a BAR )

Have you had the batteries for a while? If so that could explain it. They do eventually die. I had one die on me in a similar way recently, I'd had it for about 2 years.
Also, how long was it from charging to usage? If it's more than a week then the batteries could have discharged.
What make are the batteries?
Tom, its only 2 flathead screws to change the battery in your B.A.R. mate! i remember at your game the wiring in your gun was a mess, i would strip it all out and relace it all with some good wiring (if you find that the batteries are ok in another AEG) i think you have a short as you did say it kep blowing fuses when you bought it?
if you need any help mate just ask am a dab hand with B.A.R's

was the site charger run from mains power or a portable generator?
its always advised not to charge power tool batteries on building sites from generators as they are not constant current, they fluctuate and knacker the batteries. maybe thats the case here?
Cold weather could also be a part of the problem. I've seen several cases of batteries performing badly in low temperatures. The extreme example was a game were the only working guns was the spring powered bolt action rifles. One of my friends who also was at this game developed a preference for always bringing a spring-powered alternative weapon, since they rarely break down.
My 8.4V mini ran my Thompson all day in -0.5 to 1 C weather last month.
