I've found this which mentions an Auxiliary Light Tripod http://www.vickersmachinegun.org.uk/transport-horse.htm
The proper name or 'product' name for them is the Sangster Tripod. They were used primarily in WW1 due to the in-trench nature of the fighting, but quite a few re-issued and newly produced Vickers Mgs were kitted out with them as 'auxhillery/emergency' tripods. Not particually because there was a need for them, but they didn't go to too much bother to remove them, or if any were going spare when new Mgs were assigned, "better to have something, than to not have it and end up wishing you did"!
EDIT: A quick search brings up this http://www.vickersgun.com/gallery.htm confirming their name and their usage.
Have you got one of these tripods? If so, I'm interested if you want to sell it! Or are you interested in building an airsoft Vickers? Both myself and Major have 'smooth jackets'. Mines custom/scratch built, Majors is a converted full-metal film prop. My Vickers is already sporting a home-made Sangster, mainly because my home-made main tripod keeps being worked upon.

I think I've still got some measurements of a Sangster somewhere which I used to guide my rather rough version with (I used an old guitar stand and a drainpipe 'clamping t-peice'). I'll dig 'em out and post 'em for those who are interested.

At the moment its down to be a historically inaccurate Mk V (with the pistol grip),
Ask oddball to build you a tank to go with that
I posted up some blueprints of a .303 MG with air-cool fins on the jacket (a WW1 plane mounted version) a while back that I have have. The dimensions are the same as the infantry .303, and I'm sure the armoured transport .5 MG would share quite a few of the same dimensions (jacket length and receiver length, etc..) as a basis. Have a search through the archive of posts here or ask and I'll post them up again.
