first post on here after having lurked the forum for a while and figured i would post some pics of my wip build after being inspired by some of the builds on here.
so i decided to start with what seems to be the main hurdle when it comes to making a lee enfield and thats the reciever band(probably not what its actually called) but on the real Lee Enfields this is part of the action and is what the stock is bolted too.
now obviously we cant bolt the stock to a vsr10 action so i set about fabricating one out of some 3mm mild steel bar

to do this i literally just bent it around the stock, doing some cuts at the tighter angles

then i welded this all up(badly, first time welding so go easy on me haha) and welded a piece across the top which i drilled and tapped for the stock bolt

after that came a tricky part of welding the band to the trigger guard/magwell, after all if you mess up the angle here the cant of the stock alignment will be off......which i did. however im not too bothered by this as it till looks alright and is only slightly out height wise

so with the stock bolted on i offered it all up

then i kind of lost steam for a few weeks but got a message from a buddy organising a game which i wanted to use the rifle at so it gave me a week to get it skirmish-able so in my rush there's a few things that i didn't get around to taking photos of but I'll mention what i did for the sake of completeness
i basically removed key areas of wood from the forend allowing the action to sit inside, i then cut the vsr's outer barrel to just past the hop unit and removed the top half of what remained (if that description doesn't work think of it looking like a house gutter) the idea of that being that it will keep the hop unit in place and aligned correctly.
after this i just a dremmel sanding drum to thin out the rear top cover allowing it to sit on the hop unit and cylinder
which left us around here

so one thing that I've never been fond of with a lot of the vsr lee Enfields is the trigger placement, generally they end up very far forwards such as in this pic

and i wanted it to be more accurate to an actual Enfield trigger location so i picked up a surplus Lee Enfield trigger ground it to the shape and welded it to an appropriately shaped piece of mild steel and installed it back into the trigger box
i then extended the cylinder so that the bolt sits in the correct location
which leaves us here (excuse the tactical tie wraps and elastic band that i used to retain the mags for the days skirmish)

i still have a few bits to do such as bluing the outer barrel and attaching the butt plate
I also think i want to fabricate some sort of receiver cover to make it look more no4-ish and give me a location to mount a rear sight but at this point most of the hard work is done. the dummy mag is just a rubber one at the moment whilst i look for a real one to modify and i want to make a more accurate looking bolt handle but other than that its shooting great with the upgrades that I've installed in it.
ill post up some more pics when I've done the finishing touches but i figured even in its current state it would be of interest to a few people
Coming together nicely, well done chap!
Always like to see new builds, especially involving VSRs and Enfields. Very good effort, mate, best of luck going forward.

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
Nothing to be ashamed of there, looks like a great start to the build!

Looks good.
How strong do you believe the stock junction is?
cheers gents i appreciate it.
the stock junction is pretty damn solid, no wobble at all
Thats pretty much how I do the stock junction only i start with a piece of tube and re-shape it and the joint is very strong ,I would also suggest that you also find a way to screw the vsr breech into the jointing piece as well ,the way i do it is like one big nut welded into the tube that has the thread for the stock and also at 90 degrees a threaded hole for the breech screw ,makes it a very secure fit.
