You could just buy two no4 sling mounts ,they aren't expensive and would look the part on the box.
thats as compact as i can make it ,it mostly fits in the space above the motor ,i've test fitted it with the battery and lipo alarm and it all fits , ...

i know you expect to see the spring but you don't ,never in any picture ,the spring was quite narrow as you can see in the picture below and was deep ...
The action has probably just worn inn ,most gun's are a little tight straight out of the box and loosen up a bit with use.
does it still fire? if the cylinder head came unscrewed it could feel like this but it would not fire .
