As the final bit on kit carriage, I thought I'd cover the humble Denison smock. In my opinion, a totally underused and undervalued load carrying system. I've done a "sniper" modification on mine too, by cutting off the crotch flap and turning it into an extra pocket. I also used a bit of material to make a loop inside the top pocket, for securing my lanyards to.

You see that I've secured my compass, whistle and spoon to the smock with lanyards, so they don't get lost. In the other outer pockets, I've got my notebook & pencils, pace beads, gloves and some energy snacks. In the inside pockets, I've got my sharpening stone, some puritabs, a little pack of emergency toilet paper and a cork - if it's crap weather, I'll pop in an emergency space blanket. The rear pocket is free for "task specific" kit, like a spotting scope, demo charges, small hide kit, etc. That's quite a bit of kit, immediately to hand! Most people I see wearing Denisons don't have anything in them. You may not need to carry as much stuff as me but, don't underestimate how good a bit of kit your Denison is!

You can open up the 'poacher' pocket too, get loads of soft kit in there.

Yes, quite right! (Although I chopped a big chunk out of mine to reinforce the elbows of my smock!).

"Will you stop talking about the war!!"
"What, you started it!"
"We did NOT start it!"
