Hi all

There will be DVD screening facilities for Boryszyn's social.

I've got a few hackneyed WW2 movies at home, but if anyone has anything suitable to show please do bring along. (Not The Bunker though, we watched that before and it's cack)

Hmm, I had a clearout of my DVDs recently and I definitely don't have it.

Let me check in the loft for it, but I'm pretty sure I'll have to get you another copy.

Well you should do as it was left in the player after it was used.

I only have the case here.

Dont stress about it Steve, its not like i'm desperate to watch it again, I can probably pick up an ex rental copy for bugger all.

If you do find it I'll grab it off you next time i see you, if not its no great loss.

While I dont think its a particularly bad film, its not that great either.... it is however always good to support independent film (particularly British film).

Will Guy be dressed as the trolley dolly, selling sweets and popcorn?

The Keep

Good Schlock Tocky Horror with Nartzeees thrown in for good measure. (I don't have it unfortunately)
Enemy at the Stalingrad Breakout II Escape to The Wooden Horse on The Longest Day is akin to watching the Battle of Big Red Britain Too Far. If you get my meaning....... It'll feel like Bloody Christmas!

I'd much rather it were something fairly apposite to the event rather than horror stuff.
Anyway, experience shows that chaps will be chatting and mingling not sitting and watching, so it will be a backdrop addition to the social, not the feature!

Will Guy be dressed as the trolley dolly, selling sweets and popcorn?

I've just learned that Guy has blown this diet by eating all the comestibles so he will content himself with flashing his torch over the back row seats to watch prevent hankey-pankey .

Some years ago when private events were proper chaps affairs and blank ammo was burned aplenty! We had a barracks at Longmoor in all its glory - Iron Beds, Bed Packs, Lockers - the works..... A new chap rocked up with a new fangled DVD player and a colour portable TV (one of those ancient valve and tube affairs!!!! - you know - when a telly had a big deep casing behind the screen - A PROPER TELLY!) and a stack of small silvery Compact Discs.
Men were spread around, cleaning Machine Guns, Machine Pistols, loading Ammo belts, tending to K98s etc. Beer was in evidence and manly chat ensued. DVD Chappie set up the entertainment centre on a small table in the centre of the room and proceeded to load a very lurid porn film with that knowing blokey grin on his kite........ Apart from one interested punter who, once he realised he'd seen it, everyone else continued to undertake their beer/weapon duties and chat on after a cursory glance....

"What's up with 'em?" asked the bemused geezer.

"I looked up from tending the bolt in the MG42 and said "Have you brought any war filums? Put one of them on"

So laddie selected XoI and AS SOON as the theme tune started EVERYONE put their kit down, spun round and started quoting EVERY LINE FROM THE MOVIE!!!!!!! I think I laughed for about ten minutes................................

Does anybody have a copy of "Come and See" ? I haven't seen it, though. It could be a bit much for a social.

It's a bit grim, Ranj. I saw it on TV years ago, and have not wanted to buy a copy.

Absolutely TERRIBLE film. The book was excellent, and when I heard of the film many years ago, I got it out the video shop (yep, it was THAT long ago!) and read the cover excitedly. Gabriel Byrne, Ian MacKellan, Jurgen Prunch..prounch...prunchkow?? (the captain of Das Boot!!), and Scott Glen, brilliant I thought! Music by Tangerine dream, quality trippyness I assumed!! Directed by Michael Mann. :slap: Oh dear.

It is the single reason I would always use at the 'Crimes against filmmaking' trials to ask that Mann gets the death penalty. He is an arse, and he ruined what could have been an awsome film.
