Interesting, anyone know the film title. There was a few encounters like that in the Henry Metelmann book `Through hell for Hitler`, lots of joviality, sharing biscuits and vodka. As soon as they returned to their own lines the Russians started shooting at the Germans...sneaky beggars.

The lighter's fine isn't it? I think Kermit has one of those.

It's an IMCO lighter which were around in WW2 but not that actual design which is a triplex super, circa 1956. they are nice lighters though.

good reference here:

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

I don't think its a film. I think its from a Russian BoB style series called Shtrafbat (Penal Batallion).

Pockets on their gymnastrokias as well

The ones with pockets are M35 tunics. Although non of them seem to have any insignia, I guess because they're a penal unit.

Although it is actually very similar to the 1937 dated one , (2nd row 3rd from the right) so maybe its not so farby after all!?

Just got home and had to check - its an ordinary current manufacture Triplex Super 6700 that cost a fiver IIRC.

And have just found out the ring at the top is a moveable windshield (I had no idea it moved :slap: ) and that by firing up as normal then pulling out the entire fuel tank you have a nice broad flame to light your pipe with. :happydance: (I'm easily excited  )
