30th January 1945

The Vistula-Oder Offensive seemed unstoppable as the Red Army stormed from the east, headed for Berlin. The defensive Międzyrzecz Fortified Region in Poland was sure to be a problem. A chain of forts, bunkers, and casemates ran from north to south across the natural east-west crossing routes.

Advance recce troops were sent forward to assess the strength of the defending troops and gun batteries. Engineers went with them to destroy obstacles and assist in rapid forward progress.

And so it was, on the evening of the 29th January 1945, that 11 Guards Armoured Corps arrived in front of the main fortification line of the Central Sector "Wysoka" at Boryszyn. They had no idea of the scale of these defences and that behind the vast steel doors lay a huge complex known as The Boryszyn Loop. Linked by kilometres of underground roads and railways this tunnel system interconnected not only surface bunkers, but also an underground aircraft engine factory and all manner of secret storage facilities not to mention a command centre for the region.

Our "Boryszyn Loop" event sees the an advance party of scouts and engineers from the Red Army's 11 Guards Armoured Corps led by Colonel Sobolew stumble on a entrance cut into the hillside and are tasked with investigating what lies behind the steel doors...

The German troops within, hastily brought forward to defend the route to Berlin and commanded by SS Obergrupenführer Krüger, comprises V SS Mountain Corps, 86 Fortress Machine Gun Battalion, 103 Permanent Fortress Infantry Battalion, 433, 463 and 192 Depot Infantry Divisions of the Wermacht, as well as some 9 Army and Volkssturm battalions. There is much work to be done - not only securing the archives and art treasures but also ensuring the security of the engine assembly halls. The communications centre is vital to retain coordination of adjoining complexes up and down the line.

Should this defence be breached it is 'next stop Berlin' for the Red Army...

This event takes place at First And Only's unique Drakelow tunnels that run deep under the Kinver hills on the Staffordshire/Worcestershire border. Cut into the sandstone rock, the roadways are so long you can't see the end and so wide and tall you could drive a double decker bus down them. Indeed, we WILL be using vehicles which is a mind boggling concept for an 'underground' event. Conventional CQB this is not!

It was originally built in WW2 to house Rover's shadow factory and was most recently used as a Cold War regional command centre.

This is a late war event - all WW2 period weaponry is acceptable. There is a strict site maximum of 350fps.
