Sir,

A sparadic fire fight took place along a small sector of our line this last night. During this mornings clearence patrol, this map was recovered from a wounded German soldier. Sadly he died of his wounds before we could get him back to our lines.

It is apparent, from the map, that the Germans don't know too much about our position or where our Command Post is situated and I assess this to have been a recon patrol.

From the look of there plans they will be sending the 3rd Company of the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Battalion, Part of Kampfgruppe Peiper (according to intel), through our sector. Something big is amasing here.

ORDERS

17. December 1944

SITUATION:      

We are set in a temporary Command Post where we can no longer fall back. The Germans have been completely overwhelmed and cut us off. Fortunately for us, we are in a densely populated forest area that Heavy Panzers can’t penetrate.

• ENEMY: Enemy forces are estimated at Company strength, and as we learned last night have they Recon elements attached. We face Kampfgruppe Peiper’s, 3^rd company, 3^rd Battalion Panzergrenadiers, of the 1^st SS Division. They are armed with Rifles, Machine guns, and new Assault Rifles.

• FRIENDLY: Friendly Forces are made up of 82^nd Airborne and displaced 30th Infantry at Platoon strength. We have assorted small arms and machine guns and no integral support.

MISSION:

Our Mission is to DELAY the enemy in this wooded area and prevent them moving South towards Division Head Quarters.

EXECUTION:

• INTENT: It is my intent to DEFEND this area by a series of DELAY actions. The first will be a DELAY at the DEFENCE Line. Secondly a series of DELAY by AMBUSH.

• SCHEME OF MANOUVERE: Immediately after orders you will all commence battle prep! We will then reinforce the DEFENCE line. When set in position we will send out CLEARENCE patrols 50-100m in front of our line to instigate a fire fight.

• MAIN EFFORT: DELAY the enemy as long as possible.

SERVICE AND SUPPORT:

We have 1 medic attached to us for immediate first aid. And we have the ability to call for munitions supply via but this could be denied. What ammunition you have now, you must make it count until we are resupplied!

COMMAND & SIGNALS:

We have one radio in the back to Company Headquarters. It may be used for Fire Missions (If we have guns online) and Ammo resupply only. In the event that we will become over run I will send the message to Division Head Quarters.
