Bloody hell, you lot babble on - I can't keep up!
Armbands - the canvas I print on is artists canvas and quite stiff so velcro strips can be stuck on the back and used as-is. Done this way we can do white letters on black for the Axis, white letters on orange for the Dutch (why do they have to write the word, can't they see what colour it is LOL).
I thought you wanted a period armband/brassard for the Brits Yith?
As for crushers - doesn't bother me who wears them, I think Sidearm had one too. Should be very obvious to all players who me and Guy are anyway!
How do you feel about posting the NCOs then CW ?
Yup, will-do this evening.
Well with the dutch armbands they were supposed to be orange, but aparently weren't always orange due to lack of available cloth! (this from marloes).
The writing on them should be in black, not white. See Marloes' photos for reference.
I have the authentic NCO stripes for the Brits, I was just not sure what to do about the arm bands themselves. I guess if Axis are now going down this route then we may as well?
I don't really like the idea of using velcro as its so 70s... however it is really the only practical way for the DRWs as they may have to take the arm bands on and off.
I'd prefer to use safety pins for fastening the Allied NCO insignia arm bands on, if we need them. But I'm happy to go with a similar style to the axis NCO bands if they're going to be more robust... I understand many of the allies already have the correct insignia, so this is pretty much a thing for a future event!
OK on the orange/black lettering.
The canvas is too stiff for safety pins.
Might be better to do the Brits ones in cloth if you can find some khaki stuff and safety pin it on (yours will be quite deep to take the stripes - the German ones only need to be an inch or so deep like the cuff titles).
As for the orange bands - might be easier to use T-shirt iron-on black lettering on orange cloth as Jay suggested.
Do you want me to sort them, best way I can do it?
I do have some iron on transfers available... so I could do the DRW ones... but if you have time then please do!
I'll sort out the brit ones. I do after all have the insignia anyway! I need to also do myself some rank slides.
Now I just need a super cheap sewing machine to speed this job up!

Didn't you marry one ?
er... no..

Sorry, couldn't resist:
ROFL!
Oh shit, Im the stupid one with glasses who can't sing. Or be funny.
I liked Steve better when he wasn't here
He'll be laughing on the other side of his face when his DRWs are wearing armbands saying "Jaffa"
Right i read the NCO thread in axis discuasioion and i was a bit concerned that you';ve said ncos get radios
i though we were going to make them platton resources which riflemen carried as 'signallers' and we put them on bags to make them more WWII
I have horrible visions of SS with head set mikes
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
I've told em no headsets etc, they can use them as hand helds . The fisrts thing we need ot do is confirm they've all got em,after that we'll worry about how to deploy them !
Persoanlly I'd reall rather it was one at hq and two 'man packs' so you have the radios at strategic locations to get info to hq.
The idea of every five man squad being in radio contact feels reall really wrong
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
I think we need to talk.
I don't like it either. I'd rather we use no radios at all...
But I'm not sure on the practicalities!
We have already agreed to use radios. They used radios extensively in WW2, why can't we? It this game we ought to say radios for Germans all day, allow one radio for Brits in the afternoon - well, you keep banging on about authenticity!!
There was discussion on how to impliment them but not resolved except in a vague way.
For the sake of the game rather than 100% stitch-counting authenticity I'd prefer the use of radios in a structured squad manner as suggested previously.
We could even make radio men identifiable so that they can be taken out by snipers in order to destroy lines of communication.
Games with no comms tend to go FUBAR pretty quick. If there are at least a few people on each side with comms, rather than just COs I think it'll make for a better day's play.
Most people will still have to use hand signals, shouting, runners etc. But at least we'll be able to disseminate information across the site to NCOs quickly and effectively and they can then disseminate to their sub-ords accordingly.

Tend to agree with Steve/Dave . We used PMRs at the Bulge , I doubted half the players even noticed. I anticipate they will not be used a great deal, not a modern constant coms nett, more a way of keeping 80 players on track on a big site.
Germans will use them for NCOs only . We did discuss having them in a big pack etc but as usual we talked a lot and resolved little . Suggest we've bigger things to worry about in the next four weeks than adding another set of rules / and or sourcing some complicated kit . Going forward getting some of our "own" period style radios would be a good idea, just don't think we have enough time to do it now .
I have got a couple of British WW2 style headsets for conversion to use with PMRs.
One is WW2 spot on... the other is post war, but looks okay.
Not sure if they will be ready for arnhem, and I don't have any mic's yet!
Though I may pick some up at Crich... I have someone looking for them.
But this is just 2 radios, not the large number we're talking about if we give all the NCOs them.
