We need to be clearer in briefings about the importanceof mission and objective.
We need to demonstrate minimum engagement range an bang rule/
We probably need marshalls but dress them in civvies for the event
We cant assume cos folk are older and into wwii they will play fair (although i saw no cheating myself)
I feel we could raise the bar kit wise. There was abit of modern webbing in play on sunday (some plce and modern balck cordura stuff) and a few bolt actions are too modern L96 etc. However most kit was great.
We need some contingency 'throw ins' to break stale mates. The 'panzer assault' could have worked if we had it pre planned in thebag to go off if neccesary.
anything else?
Oh and who is the brit player we are barring and why?

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
When organising any game, I always have sub-plots that I can throw in to move the direction and area of play if necessary. Just simple stuff like intel collection or flanking missions.
The Germans were playing a little head-on for my tastes in the afternoon, some more flanking moves would have worked well.

I agree
The germans continually tried to push through the bank rather than using the extreme flnak and getting the hotel - churh - railyard form the side.

The Germans were held up by two teflon Brits in the mechanics area and another two in the chuch tower , hence why they got pissed off. CW sorted the ones in the mechanics room , we ignored the two in the water tower, as I didn't want to inflame the situation any further , and yes I'm sure there were Teflon Jerries as well . Warren's ghey "standing in the middle of the yard sniping" was piss poor as well .
It was getting to me a lot how much bollox was going on , and I was a bit embarrased to be part of the event at times, as Steve noticed when I bumped into him in the medic block towards the end . Having come back from TA4 where a lot of the same shit went on (worse than ours) , and the organiser took all the flak , perhaps I was being a bit over sensitive, but TBH when it was called at 4.30 I'd had enough .
I agree about the L96s, well anachronstic .
My final thought is that a lot of the issues come with Urban , in that you can't often see the people you are shooting at , and people always assume that throwing three genades in equals automatic hit . Most of my shite times in airsoft were spent at LFU, not because it was particularily bad, just that that sort of play is more prone to difficulties. In contrast I've always enjoyed woodland with few "bad times" . Only my observation .
I think we need to think a lot more before doing another urban , especially what to do in the pm games when players are bolloxed. Keeping the action tighter and moving the regens closer would have helped a lot .
If only I knew where the mechanics area and water tower were....

Ah, map reading skills were beyond you as well as the majority of players!

And that exaclty why i did a gorund brief and not a brief when the objectives were just unrelated bits of drawing on apiece of paper ![]()
Herding cats leading my lot...

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
LOL, Steve had a nice laminated one from Yith in his folder...
BTW, can everyone see the Major's photos from the link I posted up? I just tried it at home and I got to a password request page...

Ah, map reading skills were beyond you as well as the majority of players!
No, they just weren't on my objective list so I didn't pay attention to them. All we wanted to do was kill Germans and steal our gold back!
Only two of my players didn't have maps and every time we discussed tactics they all whipped their maps out for reference. Bloody great.
I love my DRWs, I want to play with them every game.
That last sentence came out wrong.... ![]()

Few other general thoughts in no particular order
1 We could have got the game moving a bit more by the use of the mortars in the pm to break deadlocks
2 In future we need to give special thought to the "end game" ie the last 1 1/2 hours . Both Arnhem and BotB fell apart towards the end . Some sort of subplot that can kick in towards the last hour would be useful, perhaps herding people together for a final firefight and pyro display . A bit contrived perhaps but ending on a bang not a whimper.
3 Moving regen closer together as the day draws on and the players are knackered to avoid the tempers fraying bit
4 DRWS / RPG worked very well , and is something we should deffo use again if we can get the right players to do it .
5 Lots of people enjoyed the evening before socialising
6 We should have had a booking sheet for CR as people were booking in for Arnhem
7 Parades and singing was good , inspection a bit gay ! At end ex we could have gathered the players together on site , and debriefed there and then rather than let them all wander back ot the cars ot gather them up
8 Planning out the sequence in the morning was good, we were playing pretty much on time despite late comers . The lunch was well org'd too with little pissing about before the game .
9 How were the gliders recieved, anybody like the idea or was not much made of it ?
10 Why did no one think ot get a picture of the six of us on the one few days we are all together ![]()
A few of my thoughts:
1: You cant help people turning up late - they always will. Should it be made perfectly clear that if people are not ready to go by XX:XX Hrs, then they will be dealt with after those who bothered turning up on time? If they get to join the game late, then thats tough shit. They should have turned up on time.
2: "Artillery strikes" are a good way of clearing people out of areas. Used it at FireFight a lot and it worked well. Makes people wary as well
3: Regen points need looking at. Primary and secondary regen points might be something worth looking at. Something else i've used in the past was "5 player regens". i.e. you regen in when there are 5 of you back at the regen point. Doesn't have to be five, could be less, but it means you get a "squad" come back into the action as one, not in dribs and drabs.
4: Signing in was easy, and very quick. Good plan with the booking-in sheets, whoever thought that one up.
5: Game needs to end on a high. Something time-specific, preferably with a large amount of pyro going off as the end result. Worked at Longmoor when TLSFX blew the bridge for us (mucho big bangs!) and at Eurogames when we fired off the quad-launcher.
6: Would be nice to get all the punters together at the end, but in my experience, it's very difficult to do. People ('specially those with a long distance to drive) want to pack up and piss off.
7: The "marshals" walking about. I would have far preferred if they were in some kind of period garb, with say, Red Cross armbands on. Looks less out of place that way

When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Must say i was a bit annoyued at a gaggle of four marshalls chatting and tkaing target shots in the middle of the game.

Must say i was a bit annoyued at a gaggle of four marshalls chatting and tkaing target shots in the middle of the game.
Yes that was wank .
Four marshall stood together in the middle of the yard are doing precisely fuck all . Given the amount of cheat calling I'm sure they could have done something more usefull. 2 of them dressed as chavs didn't help either .
I don't want to diss PU, but I was underwhelmed by a lot of the organisation . The , forgetting to buy the pyro , is the site open or not and all the nonsense with the gate in the evening didn't add anything but stress . The marshalling was uneffective as well . The only guy who did it for me was the lad with the pick up , he was really enthusiastic and helpfull .
Back ontrack
11 Medic Bags for regening worked really well, we should have more of them , perhaps a ratio of 1-10 players
12 Battle sounds and ambient music seemed to be appreciated.
Yes... John is a great marshal... he can marshal any game for me in the future. A great bloke with real enthusiasm.
11,12.. yes both worked well... 11 worked when people realised how to use it!
13 - Handing out maps and a bandage at sign in may have been more effective. A lot of players started without both . Or possible putting all the banadges in the medic bags ?
I don't think I'd return to PU for one reason. It's fecking lethal. From the glass to the asbestos to the deep sink holes without tape-off or covers.
There are lots of things that could really kill you quite easily, whether now or in 30 years time.

I suspect they may have real problems with H&S now the council are on their back .
Well it'll be at least a year before we even consider going back... so we'll just have to see what happens!
There's plenty of other sites to go to.
Phoenix has always had the council & H&S on their back - they run courses during the week for kids, paid for and supported by the local council. Always have jobs-worths compiling reports...
Don't think they use the urban site for that though, pity as they are all scroats having a good time paid for by the tax payer! The holes aren't big enough really.
Mystery why the car boot side of the site was closed off - cleanest area of the site! And no doubt someone will get bollocked for the fence the kid pulled down, the youth won't get the blame!
If the marshals were standing around going nothing why didn't you get them to sort out the church? The two chav young lads weren't marshals, we only had four.
Crap on the gates was out of anyone's control unfortunately, really annoying and heart-stopping nonetheless.
