OK, from the thread http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/php/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=8038#8038

OK kameraden, sod it, I'll just post here, I think the troops should be motivated with the award and presentation of an Iron Cross first class and two second class ribbons, I've got some spare ribbon and an IK 1 can be got for

When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........

Not a bad idea but we'd have to do award for both sides, i dont want to piss off 50 per cent of players who flet they missed part of the 'glam' of the event.

Actually on second thoughts i thin it might be a bit distasteful

Perhaps we do our own medals like phoenix do,, i think i'd feel a bit like i was pissing on the award to give a VC to somebody for dodging a few bbs and putting down some good shots....

Not sure how i feel about it maybe im being over sensitive

Steve gave a prize away at his WW2 day at Fireball for best kit IIRC...

Awards seem OK in principle, but some negatives jump to mind:
Duplication of 'awards' - quite possible that the recipient already has one.
Folk belt off at the end of a game esp those with distance to travel.
Added complication for organisers.
Appearing to be fair to those not awarded anything.
If NCO's are involved with the decision process it excludes them from being awarded.

Could we award something more 'useful' like BB's/Pyros/free game?

Definitely not the VC, or the Knights cross, but something that was at a lower level. 99% of re-enactment groups use an awards system, where the awards are presented for a variety of reasons. Some of which are: length of service in the re-enactment group, specific actions (taking out a Tank in a private battle) sustaining a wound in a public display etc etc.

I think it could work, if pitched at the right level, and awarded in the right way.

My 2p on the subject...

When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........

Something like the medal below might work:

When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........

I agree, but i like the phoenix system.

They have stuff like 'the iron jackal - awarded for great deeds of stealth' etc.

I think awrds good as long as they arer played down

historicla awards = bad

Problme being is as soon as you put any 'prize' into airsoft you massivly increase the temptation to shrug off a hit or cheat in a minor matter.

Stupid web site, thought I had linked to the shooting page
In a presentation case, no one would wear it on a ribbon!

As Gadge says, anything that could foster division or cheating is a bad idea, hence no "best kit" type awards, or "most kills in a day" type stuff. These kind of things need to be based on stuff like sportsmanship etc etc

When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress

Agree - at Fireball Steve gave the best kit award to Webby which was clearly a travesty as I had the best kit.

Gadge - the Phoenix award thing will be a mod Yith will have to apply but not everyone who plays is on the forum so will miss the mark somewhat.

edited, forgot spellcheck

i'll have think about this..

in theory ih think itz great but i can just see it being anextra baalache

all i do know is im not mad keen on SH doling out real bravery awards for playing army.

Its fair enough as part of an impression if kept sensible (i'd be fucked off at a player turning up wearinga VC but i wouldnt have a problem with a desert war cmapign ribbon etc)

Interesting idea, but fraught with problems

I'd be up for more of a thing on the forums after the fact, basically because of the problems of grabbing everyone at the end.

I can soon add a special awards type thingy to someone's account to show up on threads.

My 2p.

I'm not very keen on giving awards for in-game activity because how do we, as player/organisers, assess that?

In fact, I'd rather that our time and efforts were directed towards making everyone have a great game day rather than giving a few people a little kick out of getting an award.

Perhaps a nicer idea would be to take a group picture of everyone and then have a commemorative photo type thing mocked up to send to everyone as a memento of the day.

Agreed.

How about some of the 600 quid funds we have is spent on each player getting a print of thier whole side at the game?

Awards kept to online.

It fosters discussion to be up for an awrd you have to be nominated by a player and have a witness or an NCO or officewrs reocmendation!

LOL, we are right back at Guy's suggestion months ago of providing a momento of the day which was abandoned because of cost!

Cost out posting prints all over the place! And getting everyone's addresses. Much easier/cheaper to put a high res up for downloading.

You either do an awards thing or you don't. Online will be poor as some players are not online and I'm not impressed with the Phoenix thing - it will fizzle out in a couple of months.

More than anything what will it achieve?

OK, here's an idea. It's cheap, it's easy to do. And, hopefully, it'll shut SH up (either he's starting to annoy me, or I'm just in a foul mood today). MiD's for a couple of categories, most of which have been discussed earlier in this thread. Cost is next to nothing, just come up with some sort of "official" looking paperwork for both sides. Takes a second to put their name in. Job done.

Your thoughts, gentlemen....

When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........

Totally agree with Steves sentiments .
Handing out medals is Gay , devisive and yet another thing to organse.
Re SH -still believe he's a big noobie and hence not taking much of his ideas on board ..

TA4 was complete pants BTW, and only highlights to me how not to organse a game . Only good point was all the foreign players getting excited by my MP44 and wanting to take pictures of it !
