Me and Guy had a good look around the site and are happy with the scenario as it stands we just need to sort out the details now...
This means we have several items to sort out.
Apologies for the length of this post!
DRW
We imagine these guys starting without weapons or arm bands in their place of residence. Their weapons will be stored at the Allied Regen point on the Glider field.
In order to get their arm bands and hence be able to carry weapons they will need to contact their SOE operative (Steve). Once they have done this they may then go and get their weapons. They may only carry weapons when they have their orange arm band on and they can only put that on or take it off at the allied regen. Weapons may not be stored elsewhere on the site. Note that this includes hidden pistols, civilians cannot carry ANY weaponry.
When they don't have their arm bands on then they count as civilians. If they are shot then the player who shoots them also counts as shot. They will still be effected by medic rules when they are civilians.
The DRWs will have some extra rules. They will need to find several works of art and also some SS gold bars. These they should secrete around the site... At end-ex they should come and find one of us and take us to where they have hidden the items in order to claim their victory points. Note that the SS will have this same objective. The items may NOT be stored at or near a regen.
We have scoped around the site and decided on a few locations that would be good for the DRWs places of residence/employment. The Medic block would of course be the Hospital where our doctor will reside. There is a garage down by the approach road for our mechanic. Other locations are the building to the south of the hotel, the green building not far from the safe zone and the few buildings near the bridge.
Steve, we've got you down as an OSS operative... however, how do you plan to do this? Will you be in military kit (in which case you'll have to come in with the allies) or in civilian kit, in which case you'll start with the DRWs?
DRWs will regen at the allies regen and we will have no double-agents.
German deployment
Initially Model (Chomley) will be residence at the Hotel. He will have to stay there until a set time in the morning and will only have his staff there. This will be a maximum of 2 german troops. I suggest that the time he can leave is 45mins after game on. This will give the allies a fair chance to get to him and capture him. Note that the allies will not be aware of his presence at the Hotel. After the 45mins he can leave the hotel. I suggest that we get a jeep to drive up to the entrance to get him out if possible...
This does mean that the germans will effectively be without a 1IC for the first stage of the game. This is fine as they should be in some disarray at this point anyway. As soon as thie objective is completed then CW can go and take his place leading his troops.
The other germans will be split up all around the site. The german NCOs need to be made 100% aware that they must be spread out. No clumping of forces please! They're supposed to have been taken by surprise.
With any luck this will mean that the allies will manage to get a foot hold at the bridge. In fact I suggest that the germans pull back to make sure this happens. They'll get chance to kick the tommy's butt later in the morning I'm sure!
Flags
There is a flagpole on top of the hotel. It would be cool to get a german flag up there at the start of the day. I suggest a bag is put at the base of the pole with a british flag in it. Then when the Brits take the hotel they can put their flag up and vice versa. Note that since the roof is out of bounds for play that this will need to be done by an organiser... or if the site owners are really strict, we'll have to get a marshall up there to do it.
Regens
Regens can be left where they are marked on the map I put up. The Germans are free to move their "am" regen to any appropriate point near where I marked it. Their pm regen is on the bridge... Note that we will have to mark the banking down from that area to be out of bounds as it effectively will be the river. They will have to push down the approach ramp in order to proceed out of their regen.
Regens will need to be marked out with flags, just as we did at BotB.
This means we need more flags!
vehicles
If we have vehicles then it is likely they will be jeeps. Note that these will not provide cover to their occupants.
We need to discuss with the site whether it will be okay for the owners of the vehicles to drive them rather than marshalls for H&S concerns... I hope it will be fine or we could have problems!
We have 4 possible vehicles so far, with only 1 confirmed.
Oddball's jeep - I suggest we get him a set of axis uniform from warren as I think he'll probably be driving germans around rather than allies. Gadge can you discuss this with him.
Gadge's re-enactor freinds jeep. This guy is an airborne re-enactor and has some fantastic kit available. He will need to be placed with the allies all day to take this into account.
I also met up with Adam Troke today, he works in the design studio at Games Workshop. He's going to have a chat with the guys at Games Workshop as many are into WW2 stuff. This includes the Perry Twins... they have a Bren Carrier... well a dream come true if we get that... heh! I by no means expect it to come to fruition!
Guy's Landy. If all else fails, this could make a very nice troop transport for the germans. Probably best used in the assualt after lunch. Which to be honest I think they all could be used for most!
I don't think we'll need to use the site's transit and I don't really trust that they'll have it running in time anyway!
Supply drops
These will need to be placed by the marshalls in the afternoon. I suggest with use ammo tins containing of ammo and pyro. We can supply the ammo and pyro from the cash in the kitty.
Note that the airborne re-enactor guy has a drop canister that we "may" be able to use for this if I remember right... this is down to gadge to discuss with him.
radios
As much as I dislike them I think we need them. I suggest that we allow all commanders and NCOs a PMR. These are not to be used with headsets... which will make life interesting! The axis and allies will be on different channels, which means pyro marshalls will need to carry two radios... the marshalls must use headsets with their radios!
Allowing only NCO's and officers to have radios will increase their importance to the game.
artillery
This will be available to both sides, but will be much more restricted than at BotB. For a start a lot more of it will want to be smoke rather than bangs. It will not be usable inside buildings. The Mortars will not be used. Guy is happy with this... We'll not use the numbers to designate targets and instead use maybe a grid system on a map or something?
Objective locations
The objective locations around the bridge area will be designated by small pieces of wood with "Axis" on one side and "Allies" on the other. These can be on the floor or attached to a wall etc. They will be flipped to either side. Any allied or axis player will be able to switch them at any time when they are alive. We should check these at lunch to determine who is winning and hence the scenario branch for the afternoon. Note that DRWs may NOT change these objective markers.
medic rules
These will be exactly the same as at BotB, but with the addition of the ability of the Allied medical officer and the DRW doctor being able to remove bandages at the aid station or in the hospital. This has been discussed at length elsewhere so I'll not go into it now.
General Urquart
Andy Whymark (Major) expressed an interest in playing him... if he can't (which I suspect he won't) then I'll do it.
The way this works is that after lunch, before the other troops head out to their start points, the General will head out first and hide somewhere a fair distance from the hotel. He will only have a pistol and a single NCO with him. He will need to either get to the hotel himself or the allies will need to find him. The DRWs could be useful for this. I quite fancy this as I really enjoy sneaking around behind enemy lines ... heh!
Did I miss anything? I have a feeling I have done!
I've no idea what I'll be doing. I've yet to read the scenario!
I think it'll be a little lame if I'm in my US kit to be honest, so may go for a civilian look, maybe grow a beard! ;o)
S
Steve... I was wondering if some sort of mixed kit would be in order... dunno...
Oh yeah... another thing needed... papers for the DRWs
All seems fine to me althoguh Gary cant make the show.
Urqhart is a good idea but important not to make to big athing of it,. the battle should be about locations not people.
I'd rather focus energy on giving the alies supply drops to reach, artillary observation posts to take out etc to liven up popotentially static situations than a saving private ryan style rescue. (plus you always get captured Rich )
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Regarding flags on the German HQ, I've got a German flag - does anyone have a Brit one? if so, then the easiest thing would be to put them at either end of a "continuous loop" of rope/paracord running through a screwed in eye bolt on the top of the building (If PU have a ladder, i can supply the eyebolt). That way, by hauling up the brit flag, you'll haul down the German flag, and no-one has to climb up anything during the game.
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
I've got a Brit flag - I'll check out what is usable on the flag pole next Sunday, we have flown a flag from there in the past...
Re pyros/smokes - suggest ordering it all through Phoenix (and do a good deal) - their retail prices are:
30sec Smokes -

We've a Brit and a German flag, but bring more along they all help .
Re pyros, not bad prices i'm assuming we could get more of a "trade discount" like we did from Gucci ?
Small smokes, wouldn't bother with personally , and reckon throweable ball grenades a lot better than wimpy mark fives .
Case of 35 mkVs for
Like I say, negotiate a deal. Agree on big smokes (although folk can buy what they want on the day for personal use) - H&S issues on big bangs for use by players but big bangs not a problem used by staff, fixed location electric pots and such.
Can't remember what grenades they stock but I'll check that next week, in any case they can buy in for us.
BTW those MK5s are + VAT and postage...
