As the organisers develop and structure the 'Battle of the Bulge' airsoft game we welcome any input from potential players. Please feel free to post any ideas you would like to see incorporated into the game - the type of gaming, level of realism and so on.
This is your opportunity to assist us in creating the game YOU want to play.
Post away, the thread is yours....
What about trying to re-gain some sort of ammo dump, so you can re-supply your troops
Tired ?? come and i will put you too sleep BANG BANG
Thank you for being the first on this thread sir, much appreciated. Yes, fuel and ammo dumps will play a strong role - going to be vital to the poorly supplied Axis I think! Luckily F&O have fuel drums already on site, which is nice.
One of the things I think I learned from the last Fireball WWII event was the need for command and unit structure. I remember Headshot was hoping this would be formed on an ad hoc basis but it didnt really happen and we ended up with a lot of people wandering round not sure what to do.
As a suggestion how about assigning a basic command structure prior to the game, with units and leadership being sorted, and then any walk-ons (should you have them) can be added to units and still feel part of something larger.
Just a thought.
Oh and the obvious medic rules thing. I kinda like the version I saw in the States that uses a plain pack of shuffled playing cards. When shot you have to stay where you are and call medic. When a medic reaches you he blindly takes a card at random. A non picture card means you can go on fighting. A picture card indicated murder-death-kill and its back to the safezone for a regen for you. Makes it nice and random plus theres no trouble of people losing their regen tokens.

Yes, we will definately be running some sort of command structure. We will be assigning leaders of units for both sides. Most likely these will be the organizers themselves as we do cover all the sides, but that may change. I think we'll work this out nearer the time when we have a better idea of numbers.
As for the medic rule, what you suggest sounds interesting... I think though we may go for the tried and trusted F&O method which requires no props...
You get one life in the field. When you're shot the first time you call for a medic. The medic comes and holds your wrist for 10 seconds. During this time neither you nor the medic can do anything else (including shoot). If you're interrupted you have to start again.
An optional extra rule that may be used is that you can medic enemies as well in which case they become your captives. They are not allowed to try and escape and you can escort them back to your base and hold them for a limited amount of time (say 10mins). If one of their guys manages to kill the guards and touch them during this time then they are freed and can start fighting again.

That would be a good idea if your involving a point scoring system, aswell as take out the opposit side, try and capture people, return them to your base for some extra points.
Points then could lead to Air-strike at a certain Grid location on a map (game area) (This is where the communication by the marshalls is crucial)
Anyone in that area, once air-strike is called, is dead

At the FB game we did have a command structure, including side commanders and team 1i/c's to disemminate information.
All the game info was given to the commanders well in advance of the game in order for them to prepare, and it still didn't work! The previous year I provided info in advance for all players, that didn't work either.
Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is if we do go for side commanders, they need to be well aware of what's expected of them and also able to communicate effectively.
I think people also need to think carefully about how they're going to communicate in the field with the limited comms 40's style! The biggest stumbling block for the games I ran were that people didn't proactively try to communicate up the line of command so when they ran out of objectives, they didn't know what to do. Runners work well, especially if it's some young 'softer eager to please!

Amongst the organisers we have two germans and three allies . Why not just agree a command structure now and then move on. As more players sign up we can work on a team structure .
I'm happy to play the German commander or 2IC, if Dave wants to do it .
Well Gadge has already agreed to be 1IC of the Brits as he has an officer's uniform. (Though so do I now... and the same rank as him, plus I have a 1945 army whistle I want to use )
That leaves the US troops.
Personally I was wanting to leave this until closer to the time when we knew more accurately who was coming. There may be someone we know who decides to come and is a "perfect leader"...
But if people want to put themselves forward as posible leaders then thats fine.
This may be easier if we get any teams signing up as they should have a normal "boss"
I'd be happy to be a Yank 'leader', or rather 'liaison officer' as I prefer to call it.
and I'd follow him into battle... preferably if he went first

I strongly subscribe to the Dick Winters 'Follow me' method of leadership!

I'll follow you straight into the jaws of hell..........maybe
I'm a grunt and thats the way I like it. Give me a job, i'll go do it or die trying
Given that the numbers on this game are likely to be fairly small, and that the average attendee is likely (and im not being rude about this, just honest) to be a little more "switched on" than a lot of 'softers, a command structure will work.
Leading 25 people around is a whole different kettle of fish than organising 125
Mind you, if someone turns up with a combover and a little tache trying to order the Axis side around, he may be told to f**k off

Hey
Anybody seen the LED ttachements for the end of your gun, they they light up the flurescent BB's and look great in a night fight, I've got one that fits onto the end of my AK74, whick I'll be using as an MP44, hope this game goes on til dusk so i can use it 'cos the tracers look like real bullets
That would be a tracer unit.
And if you're using an AK, that means you're German which is fine by me, it will give your position away fantastically!
yup a tracer unit, I'll just have to do a lot of fire and manouvre before I fill your US ass with lead, (well LED flurescent plastic really)
What time will it go on till???? dusk sounds good with winter nights, but will gucci allow us there in dusk hours?????
hope so
