Hi Chaps

Got this unprompted from IED

Hello Guy,

Hope you are well mate.

You may have seen in the Vietnam forum that we are hosting a weekend for them
at IED in April 07. Speaking with Ian & we'd like to do the same with the WW2 lads whether airsoft or re-enactment. We would provide the land & you guys turn up, pay the fee & then cane the life out of each other. As you know we can cater for a decent amout of players & ideally we'd host this at the Glyn Ceiriog/Oswestry site initally. We are getting the Shropshire (Bishops Castle area, 1500 acres) online in the spring.

Does this sound like a good idea? Would you/they be interested? Is there anyone i should contact?

Regards

Ed

......which was nice !
I've gone back to Ed and told him we are aiming to get through this event before thinking about the next one , but that I'd already suggested talking to IED about a possible game for next year .

They are game for a 24 hour event for around £25-30, which would be good value .
Anyway talk more later , I thought it good that sites were interested in us rather than the other way round .

I suggest mentioning this to people on the day... get an idea of how many who are attending the F&O event are willing to do a 24 hour game in WW2 kit.

I strongly suspect it won't be many... though in fact you may get quite a few who will say yes and then change their minds. Such is the nature of 24 hour games.

Talking to Gucci in the pub after the game on Saturday I was surprised to hear that a lot of bad comments were made over the Darkmoon game at Bramham. A 24 hour game that I beleive was more or less in the style of the IED ones (Please correct me if I'm wrong). It seems that the large majority of airsofters don't want to play that sort of game.

We'll be doing a specialist game type within a specialist genre so will have to expect lower numbers. Which may be fine and exactly what we want for this game!

What concerns me is that this will be heading the group off at a bit of a tangent from the type of game we're running this time. We've done a fantastic job getting the word of our plans out to the WW2 airsofters out there and I'd hate for it to be undone by giving them the wrong impression about what type of game we are going to do in the future.

It may be that we can avoid this happening by careful marketing. For instance instead of just announcing the next game as IED what we could do is announce that and the next BoB style game at the same time. I'm not suggesting we have them running near the same date, but with the two styles being so different it may be the best way to go to keep the group we have right now interested.

Mentioning the 24 hour game on the day would be better than doing on a net poll as we know how apathetic people can be. I think there are enough questions to be asked now to make a questionaire worth while...

On a personal note, I've been trying to avoid weekenders as I want to spend more time with my family... Hence the reason why WW2 airsofting was so interesting to me rather than doing the Milsim type stuff. I don't want this to end up as 24 hour only territory and would prefer to keep doing more single day events.

I like the idea of a Wales thing and it's good that the WW2 thing has gained a bit of momentum.

Numbers WILL be small (that's fine) and it will be a useful addition to a portfolio of WW2 scenarios.

By all means solicit opinion from attendees but few people say what they mean or can even be arsed to think about what they think! (And as you say Yith, net polls are generally poo!). We need opinion from outside our game and ASCUK too!

Frankly, the only way to be sure is market a product - if it sells fine, if it doesn't scratch it. (Heh, Shaun does it all the time!)

Why not think about a summer date which gives time to see what happens to the Vietnam one? (hell, I might even be going to that one)

Wise words there Dave!

:)

Wish I could do the Nam game, but considering the other stuff happening around April I really don't want to. If it was a single day I'd be there in a flash... As its overnight I'm really not that interested! I've done loads of overnight games in the last 2 1/2 years and want to settle down a little...

It sounds like IED really want to get this going so I'd go ahead... however I'd really like to get a single day game a little closer to home sorted before the summer, whether that be at F&O again, LF (their new woodland and urban sites look great), Phoenix or elsewhere! Ideally I'd like to run it in April...

(Of course there's another thing... if we find this game works well, who's to say that others, I'm thinking of Seg and Bigfish, won't try to do something similar... we may find that the next game at CA is a little more interesting...)

Certainly, spring game (I'd like it to be urban based this time) for deffo!

BTW, when this game is over I will turn the web site into a game retrospective. After the interest has died down it will metamorphose into a general WW2 airsoft interest site - hopefully this is where the all interested players will start from (rather than just the few ASCUK users). A principle place for marketing new projects!

Right-o then...

Urban it is... I'm happy with that as urban is my favourite game style... :)

In which case, I think we need to organise days in the new year for us all to get to the two Urban sites in the local area. i.e. Phoenix at Clay Cross and the New LF Urban site in Sheffield.

Then we can have a proper, informed and unpredjudiced discussion about which would best meet our needs...

Guy, please keep working with IED... we do want to do this... I suggest in the Summer, August perhaps? Though a warning, I may not be able to attend!

Not August.

I have it on the tin-can telephone that Fireball's International game over the August bank holiday this year will be a WW2 weekend instead.

Interesting... Are they really expecting the same number of players as they usually get for a FBIG in proper WW2 kit?

Or ... will this be another 10 people in WW2 kit and 100 in DPM/Flecktarn type game?

Er... are you organising this for them?

Oh, I can't go to that one then - my only weeks holiday of the year!

Good point though, we need to keep a calender of ALL big events to minimise clashing! (although history plays a part - Guy loves his accurate dates! )

Wouldn't the 'living history' type bods like the camping and cooking and fighting in the wilds sort of thing?

Some will yes... and some won't... just as with the airsofters! Both groups have their fair share of people who want an easy life... ;)

I've been thinking about a plan for an Urban game and perhaps an Arnhem game may work... We will probably get the small group of British Paratroopers to be flown in to Arnhem... loads of Germans to attack and plenty of Yanks to come in and save us, or not as the case may be! ;)

The new LFU may work well for this as there is a river and a bridge on site... though the bridge may be out of bounds unfortunately. The factory buildings are suitably old and run-down and don't look quite as modern as the ones at Clay Wheels Lane. Shaun put pics up here.

I imagine it'll be a WW2 theme without the costumes, FB are keen not to exclude ANYONE, often to their detriment.

And no, I'm not organising it. A cretinous cockface and his wormtongue-like twat of a lacky are apparently, hence I WILL NOT be attending.

I know that quite a few WW2ers I've spoken to are very keen to do the foxhole, overnight thing. So it might work...I know I'd do it.

Perhaps a good time would be mid July after the exam period to get some of the students keen to get rid of their leftovers of their student loan! ;)

Sounds good!

Re urban. I was wondering if we can't include some resistance fighters (whatever the scenario turns out to be) as this would give an opportunity for others to join in (cloth caps and tatty trousers, old baggy suits...). Imagine the fun of the female role, pushing a pram past German guards with a couple of Stens and some plastic explosive tucked up with the baby. Or indeed colaborating with the Germans yet secretly passing on radio transmissions...

BTW, I have put a 'last few days only' flash on the advertising banner in the vain hope we scrape a few more in, not that it matters if they don't.

I'm going to have to get this game, Christmas and a major 'product' launch at work in February out of the way before I can commit anymore time to airsoft planning!

I like that we have this forum to discuss things though.

What a lot of debate for so lil a post

Firstly , I only posted it to let you know that they would be receptive if we were interested. A lot of their events are 24 hours , which appeals to some and not to others .

& Yith you are right , IED is about full on milsim similar to Bramham which will have a limited and more selective appeal . Personally I really like 24 hours of tabbing and patrolling , with the odd firefight to most of the day games I have played , but then thats just me . I suspect an IED game would appeal more to people leaning towards reenacting than daysofters.

I suggest we need to sit in the pub after the 17th and decide if we want to organise something again then go through the who's, why's and whats of it all . First q of all is how many events can we commit to , and do we all need to be so involved or can we split up tasks to keep down a workload ?

Reckon an Arnhem game is a must, DDay /Caen/Bocage would be nice and I would dearly like to build a V1 so some sneaky commandos could come and blow it up !

Hmm re read this thread again ... Pheonix or nuLFU both sound good , and checking them out (in WWII kit ) makes sense .

The IED can be a day thing , most people stay the night because it's a bit of a trek and you can . Next tme I'm up there I'll have some thoughts as to what sort of game could be played there, and draft up some ideas. If it looks of interest we'll take it from there .

I take the point that if the BotB is a success we need to roll with more of that type of softing to build a WWII brand , rather than confuse people by having a very milsim event that a lot won't buy into . Could even look at a private invite only game ? Just a thought .

Website ideas sound cool , as ever NFI on these things myself but like the way it's worked so far so will trust the boss !

Yeah I read it wrongly first time... I read it again after my first couple of posts...

Reenactors aren't necessarily into that either... many would prefer a skirmish... At least thats what I've seen... As I said above I say go for it :)

Agreed, but don't forget there will be more than just the 5 of us at the pub on the 17th!

Reckon an Arnhem game is a must, DDay /Caen/Bocage would be nice and I would dearly like to build a V1 so some sneaky commandos could come and blow it up !

Mmm... good stuff... so we're all being persuaded by Arnhem... excellent!

On the V1 Commandos thing... that may be ideal for the IED game... :) Basically the same scenario as Darkmoon!
