I've received "The World War II Tommy: British Army Uniforms, European Theatre 1939-45" today, wonderful material and when I saw the US War Aid Battledress it reminded me of the set of 1949 BD that I have in my wardrobe, so basically I'm asking for your thoughts on whether it's a viable look-alike for officer's BD due to the open collar and exposed buttons etc.
For those that own the book, the pictures in question are on pages 67-68, Major of the RAMC wearing a service dress cap.
EDIT:
After accidentally coming across this OD Alice Pack, I wondered if it's a suitable stand in for those who do not have a bergen such as myself.
Thank you for reading.

Using 49 Pattern as a look alike for a tailored front officers battledress has been done by re-enactors many times before. It works pretty well but the conversion is obvious for those who know the details to look for. For airsoft having any battledress is probably better and being an Other Rank rather than an officer is better still. For games the roles of section or platton leaders are more of an appointment than a rank. Having lots of apparent officers on the field tends to breed even more confusion than usual. If you have 49 Pattern that fits you I would just wear it as.
Oh, it's okay, sir. I have OR 37, Officer 37, Denim and 49 Battledress, I wanted to see if the thoughts I'd come up with had been done before.
Thank you for shedding some light on this matter, sir.

The Alice bergen is OK as a looks-like. Mine is a green postwar one which has been left out in the sun and faded back to WW2 tan!

Once again, I've found a possible look-alike for bergans for those who can't find one or the price of getting one or a repro is just too much of a pain to bear. I should know since I'm poor.
This example is from surplusandoutdoors, a place I've bought some items from the in the past, the most prominent being a belgian 3/4 greatcoat to turn into a British Warm for being an officer (The chance of which is nil).
The current price is £19.99 and I'm considering maybe buying one to compare with my original bergan and seeing whether it is properly viable to convert with some proper buckles and webbing straps and not something that looks big in pictures, but tiny in the flesh.

I have no idea what the original looks like but this seems to be along similar lines and £15 doesn't seem a lot.

Here is an original WW2 Bergen which I had some time ago;

That's a delightfully beautiful bergan you have there, sir. Mine's like the one that's in the No.2 Commando Kit Guide, tan instead of green.
