Hi Guys,

Put this up in the US section, but as it's an allied group discussion, anybody with a Dress Uniform within the British ranks is more than welcome! :)

Count me in... Hallamshire Battalion Captain.

I come ready with full dress uniform, monocle, swagger stick, british warm, hip flasks... and not enough hands to carry all that and still drink.

Though at St Lo I'll have to do the yank thing I suppose and only in combats.

Ariel will be in ORs service dress...

Damn!

you could simple call it the A.D.G and have ADG shoulder titels like the ARP ones

hmmm an armlet may be a solution for brits... I'll get my book.
...
Yes worn by ORs and Officers on all uniforms. Lots of really flash designs and easily removed or added to uniforms. Choose something suitably vague and we can wear it on both US and UK uniforms I reckon.

I'm sure I can find someone to make some up if we come up with something suitable.

I like it :good:

The W on the ARP helmet could stand for "wankered" :D

Is Saint-Lo the inaugural event?

Note that modern dress no2 uniforms make passable service dress for the purpose of getting drunkin a field round a fire (so no pointing out the difference of cut anyone... i *know* its not the same...)

You can get full service no2 dress for about 15quid from anchor surplus.

the its simply a matter of headwear!

and the sizes...

Anchor's stuff tends to be most small cadet sizes. I struggled to find a set in my size. In the end I had to get it from two separate dealers at Stoneleigh.

But yes... I promise not to stitch count no2s... honest ;)

On the subject of this, i want to get a nice Brit S. Staffords Officer's dress uniform for drinking in, however, Dress uniforms are something i know absolutely nothing about, so a couple of questions:

I take it modern Brit Dress No. 2's are close enough to work, what else do i need?

Shoes: Brown, leather, plain, i assume?
Cap: Haven't a clue!
Sam Browne belt with cross strap?
Silly moustache: Could be a tall order!

Also, what insignia would go on the uniform?

All correct there.

Rank insignia only on the uniform, plus brass regimental buttons and officers collar dogs (tend to be bronze, but it depends) Head gear is the maroon beret with bronze badge.

Basically you've seen my Hallams Officer's SD? lose the insignia from the shoulders (that's a halams thing) add in the right buttons and collar dogs and put the maroon beret on... :)

Modern ORs No2s are a good start, but they are different, so if you can get officer's SD (even modern) then it's better

Good luck with finding those. I searched Ebay for about a year to get a full set of Manchester Regiment buttons and dogs. I bought them in dribs and drabs from blimmin' everywhere and I'm still one short.

good luck with finding modern officers service dress at an affordable price......

i was going for full officers mess dress ala carry on up the khyber.... the red mess jacket alone was 200 quid...... ( did find a nice pair of black mess trousers with the red stripe, but they were a 38 waist, again, they were 60 quid)
so i thought, ok dress uniform..... only ones i could find were full uniform, jacket and trousers( no buttons on) and they were over 150 quid.

reasonable? define reasonable, because 200 quid for a red jacket thats basicly a waistcoat with sleeves is a no no in yorkshire

hehe  There are a couple on ebay at the moment as full sets for about £175 buy it now.

I was after the slightly less poncy dress uniform, and yeah, Officer's SD are a bugger to find, so it may just have to be the OR No. 2, as it's the only affordable option for what is essentially a glorified beermat.

Yes... buttons can be a pain. I was exceptionally lucky to get a full set of Y&L buttons. I also have a full set of Royal Engineers ones.

If you can't get the right ones then by all means use General Service. Which I may be able to help with as I have quite a few!

Get No2's but keep looking for Officer's SD... my 1940s Officer's SD cost £40 in 2008... I kid you not!

I know people have strong feelings about Replicaters, but I have an officers loadout for £110 from them which I like a lot plus £20 for a WWI Sam Browne and about £20 (and a year's searching) for the buttons

I picked up a modern Royal Engineers No.2 Mess Dress - (I think that's what it is) - from Daphnie's Handbag in Nottingham for about 20 quid. I assume that's similar to pre 1939 Mess undress (no. 8) - according to Wikipedia, but I can't find any photos to back that up. Not really the gear for sitting in a field though.

I also have a parade Horse Artllery uniform - Adam Ant style Hussars jacket, etc I used for some Napoleonic Live Roleplaying stuff we did. That will really out-Bling the Germans !
