I am thinking of getting some ammo boots for Crich - just wondering if anyone knows a good place to start - looked at Milsupply.com and silverman's, anywhere else ?
Cheers

what size ranj? give george or irish nige a call at jay jays, if you drop my name you might get a few quid discount. ( thats if they have any in) 0114 2555819 . if they have some i can pick them up for you .
Getting perfect ones is difficult. Sabre will have some guards ones.
Not sure if SoF sell the WPG repros yet or just the guards ones.
Silvermans are great if you have tiny feet or huge clown ones... but not if you have sensible sized feet.
Looks like SoF are expecting them in stock in April...

According to their website, they have new ammo boots in all sensible sizes at the moment and in wide fittings too!
Do you mean these: http://www.silvermans.co.uk/ProductDeta ... fault.aspx
If so you will find them very uncomfortable to skirmish in - they are triple soled so as inflexible as a piece of wood. Great for ceremonial parades but not for battles. I have a pair of used ones which are just wearable (with fringed ankle tops) but I dread to think what a new pair would be like!

I have found WPG shipping to be faster then SoF these days, even on an SoF 'good day'.
I do like my WPG ones (though what do I know about boots?!), even though they are WWI ones.
Well, I can recommend the WPG WW2 boots - they are starting to get really soft now (with a lot of use and TLC). What's more they are a good repro and well made for the price.
Actually, I don't think WPG is shipping from the US Craig - I'm sure they use shippers in somewhere like Israel now (can't remember exactly ).
They are shipped from the U.A.E.
So near Israel, if not like.
At least I think it's the U.A.E.? if not them somewhere like.

On the last pair i had (too small, sadly, so i flogged 'em) the triple tap sole is just an extra layer of leather over the sole, so you can take them to a cobbler, get them to take the third layer off and then re-hobnail/blakey them, and they become a *lot* more flexible.
Yup i had the tripple sole removed and rehobbing for about 15 quid or so
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
But you've still got the pebbling all over, which is wrong...
WPG repros are a better bet.

It's U.A.E - my WPG Tam o' Shanter was sent from there
I don't mind stiff new boots so much, I only really want them for reenacting events (i.e. Crich next weekend) not for skirmishing - I intend to stick to my DMS boots for that. I've ordered some from WPG anyway, I was sold by Jerry's "big improvement", I just hope DHL get here before Friday.
But you've still got the pebbling all over, which is wrong...
The SIlverman's ones have a polishable toe.

they all have pebbling. you "iron " it out with a hot spoon. i will show you at crich.
I'm looking at getting ammo boots - but there are a few versions out there.
Repro, triple sole guards, pebbled uppers with toecap, smother uppers with toecap(modern)...
I currently have a pair of DMS boots, but if I visit Crich as a potential walk on, I don't want to let the side down.
Any tips on boots much appreciated - this is nearly as confusing as the blanco thread - from a 'other sides' point of view
sandels del, and a note from the MO saying excused boots

yeah I'll play the GOD card hahahahaahaha
Lets see if this helps:
Modern 'Guards' ammo boots (with bulling removed) - triple soled so completely inflexible. Great for ceremonial parades but nowt else unless cobblered. Notice previous owner's fringing to stop edge rubbing)
Old real steel ammo boots
WPG repro -'new' version. Now broken in and well treated to soften non-military standard leather but still a long way to go before being 'comfortable'
By the way - I recommend stashing a roll of zinc oxide strapping plaster to prevent blisters and rubbing with new boots - these took the back of my heels off at Husky!
