The Canadian 49 Pattern Trousers were the same as the British ones of the same pattern. The Map pocket was moved to the side.

But for dress wear they would rip the map pocket off the trousers completely. Might well have happened to the pair you have.

Ah yes, they are Canadian 49 Pattern Trousers as after the war the First Field Dressing Pocket was removed.

Its perfectly normal.

Had a pair of 54 dated Canadian trs at one time and they were nothing at all like Brit 49 patt trs in their construction, features etc.

I would go as far to say that they were identical to WW2 patt ones but with no field dressing pocket.

Easiest option would be to ask around if anyone has a seriously moth eaten Canadian blouse or trs or even a Greek one you could scrounge enough material to make a ffd pocket :) :)

If the serge is the same colour/texture as 49 pat uk i can cut you enough fabric off an old blouse to make an ffd.

The Canadian 49 Pattern isn't much different from the war time pattern just a few changes, not like the British 49 pattern.

Your first post was a little confusing regarding 49 pattern

Never heard of Canadian post war BDs referred to as 49 pattern before.

Cheers

Well its referred to as 49 Pattern but as far as i know it was the last Battledress made by the Canadians after their 37 Pattern.

Canadian Pattern 1949: Canada only produced one more version of Battle Dress after the war; Pattern 1949 had broad lapels added to the Battle Dress Blouse, giving it an open-collar design. The First Field Dressing was also removed from the trousers after the war. Battle Dress continued to be worn as a field uniform during the Korean War and up to the introduction of the Combat Uniform. It was retained for dress wear up until Unification of the Armed Forces, and into the 1970s by some Reserve units. Cadets at the Royal Military College of Canada continued to wear a Navy-blue variant of the Battle Dress Blouse until May of 2006.
