here is a pic of british airborne troops at arnhem( i think the title says they are border regiment on the lennepweg road ) notice the guy with binos apaers to be wearing a balaclava rolled up, the guy next to him appears to have a helmet net over his beret. opinions?
The dude closest to camera looks like he's going for a Nora Batty look.


Reasonably common for the scrim scarf to be worn over the beret, cant see why a helmet wouldnt be used.
Other headwear is either a badly rolled cap comforter or the issue balaclava
edit: its the balaclava, you can clearly see the rim of the face aperture at the top.
