I'd sign up for The Dogs as well.

Cheers

now that seems exactly what im looking for, something with a genuin look to it but without being a real unit, not to mention a war film i need to find and watch.cheers i know somebody on here would be able to supply a solution to my reticence of portraying a real unit, now to find the bits i need.

Going from the originals that were so very kindly given by the Angels lads, I was thinking of getting some repro' ones made up for others to use if we were going to 'go big' and do "The Dogs" as an airsoft unit. All the original D.G.L.I insignia is the printed cloth type if insignia (like the Polar Bear div' patches on PBI's 'Hallams' impressions), rather than embroidered felt type.

I'd take a set as well. It's a nice idea, we've done the same for the Cold War Brit unit, with cap badges for the 'Royal Union Rifles', an imaginary unit.

Okey dokey, I'll try and get in contact with any people/companies who'd be willing to make 'em for us.

But they didn't star in their very own feature film with Valentines subbing for Panzer IIIs :)

Indeed! I originally posted up the suggestion on the Gunman forums, as an alternative unit for the 47 Commando guys and the other Gunman Brits to portray, and low-and-behold the Angel lads informed us that they held many sets of the original insignia, and they very generously gave then to each of us. I will use my set of originals as a 'master' set to try to get reproduction sets printed - even if I have to screen print them myself!!!

Haven't a clue yet! Haven't found anyone to make 'em yet, and not calculated how much it'd be to start printing them myself. Unfortunately I'm a very busy chappy, but I'm deffo' going to try and make as much time for getting these done as I can.

Have you tried Monty's Locker? I believe he'll do short-run embroidered insignia, not sure about screen printed though.

If you can get it done printed is the way to go.
More common than is thought on combat uniforms, it was the standard for many regiments.

Good point! For those of you who haven't yet seen the film it can be seen here: http://www.archive.org/details/The_Way_Ahead_1944

Are you going to be making cap badges too?

The closest cap badge is I think the Rifle Brigade but it would need some work.
Crown cut off, wreath cut back and the duke of gleandons scroll adding to the bottom.

There are versions of the Rifle Brigade badge with and without a scroll on the bottom.
I guess it's up to you which you consider the easiest. Adding a scroll or removing lettering from one.
If you are going to cast them, starting with the plastic version might give you a better pattern to mould from?
