Anyone here done this before? I've been looking at options for WW2 NZ impressions, and concluded that I'm going to have to wait until end of semester when I go back to full time work before I can get a line inf kit sorted. That makes an LRDG impression the more attractive, since it seems from photos that they used whatever they could lay their hands on, with functional and practical concerns taking precedent over uniformity.
Looking through this section I found an older thread which looks rather like the kind of impression I was thinking of, but since it isn't an actual LRDG impression, it might be worth seeing if anyone here has done this, and if so, any tips they might have.

LRDG kit....
http://blindkat.hegewisch.net/lrdg/troopers/index.html
Sandals, suede boots, ammo boots.
KD trousers, BD trousers, KD shorts, civvy cords
KD shirts, BD blouses, Greatcoats, Leather kerkins, sweaters
FS caps, arab headwear, cap comforters, RTR berets
Anything from a belt to musketry order webbing
FS knives, smle bayonets
Webleys, lewis guns, smles, thompsons

In any order you like really.

You have to remember the desert is baking in the day and freezing at night and they would be out for weeks at a time.

Add in captured DAK kit if it was practical.

The BD jackets and trousers should be NZ pattern for the New Zealand troop. For where Ash is located that might not be too much of a problem.

Awesome, cheers for that. NZ summer is almost here, and though isn't even close to the heat of north Africa,it's pretty intense, so I'm gonna enjoy testing what I come up with. Plus I guess I can wear my suede desert boots without feeling like I'm taking liberties with history.

Yeah, there's still tons of it around. IIRC it was a company called 'Relax' in Wellington who produced NZ BD gear, though I don't recall whether or not they also made the webbing, pouches, holsters etc, but there are plenty of those around, too.

Almost got this finished, will post some pics for critique when it's all there. Using the photographic record available, I've been working on an north Africa variation and an Adriatic theatre variation.
