Hi Chaps,
Looking at a non-regulation (naturally for any field impression) method I've read about - getting my hands on a '37 or '08 pattern Large Pack and attaching a pair of '37 basic pouches to either side. Has anyone on here done this?
I'm doing a later war (44-45) Brit impression for the Far East (as I cook during games in Wool). Missing JG as I'm currently making do with a green army shirt and denim BD trousers.
I've never done it but I've modified/repaired webbing of the same period and material.
Couple of things to bear in mind:
If you're going to machine sew it you'll need a powerful one as sewing through 3 layers of canvas webbing would kill most machines
Please don't ruin genuinely rare gear - repro might not only be less of a crime but due to quality of construction might actually be easier too
You could try using a leather sewing kit and doing it by hand. That's what I'm going to be doing for the burma game in September
Regards,
Ralph
Yeah, I'm anticipating a fight with it.
I've done a fair bit of P37 webbing sewing and haven't found it too hard as the weave is quite coarse. A thimble can help a lot.
Original large packs are dirt cheap, but you might be better off with repro pouches.
