Hi lads,
Ok so im looking for a poncho for Crete incase it rains, and well if it doesn't, it'll look good in my small pack!
I found this one on ebay
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewit ... 0629500987
What do you think? Any better suggestions?
Thanks for the help

Try sabre sales, you'll be able to get one for about £15 posted

If you want one for proper re-enacting/correct for the period, then it's the right 'cut'/pattern, but the wrong material (green rubberised canvas, rather than tan rubber-impregnated* cloth). But otherwise, they're great and I carry one when I go hill walking and mountaineering! Usually the green post-war ones (as shown in your link) can be found for far cheaper (try to aim for picking up a clean and tidy one for around the sub-£5 mark), but if you're at a push, then £15 may be worth it for convenience sake.

Does any store sell them? SOF describes their groundsheet as " rubberised groundsheet".

I think SOF do both he groundsheet and the cape thingy but iirc they are quite pricey.
being a cheapskate I use a Soviet plash palatka, roughly the right colour when sticking out of a small pack and far and away the most waterproof WW2 bit of cloth I've come across. God knows what is treated with, some sort of awful anti gas compund no doubt, so probably best not to lick it
One day I may get a proper British one.

They have this one:

And this one:
http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk/mkvi-brown ... ct,10647,1
The first one has a generic description and is cheaper. The second is described as 1915-1940. What kind of groundsheet was issued post 1940?

It's the second one, as far as I am aware, that was issued throughout the war.
I have never had either, but Dean has worn the 'green' one before in the rain, it looked fine. But the brown, expensive, one is "more right".
Thanks
Which straps hold it in place? I see the attachment on the small pack, but the straps are needed... Are these the right ones?:

as far as I am aware it is just held in place by the closing of the small pack's flap over it.
Ah, I see. Thanks!

They are two separate items one, the first, is a cape/groundsheet - it can be used as either - which came in tan and then later green while the other is just a groundsheet and not much use as one and even less so as a cape.
I think the correct cape is here:

Well lets hope none of us has to get our waterproofs out at Crete, it would be very ahistorical and not what we've come to expect from AGS games.
I am also going to practice sleeping out overnight in preparation for Hut 19, although if it is pouring with rain and blowing half a gale, then maybe not.

You could also use the gas cape if you have one which is really an oilskin overcoat. The raincape is what most troops seem to be issued with and is good as a waterproof in conjunction with a steel helmet. It is pretty poor for fighting in as it has no sleeves so your arms and rifle are underneath or you have to flip it over your shoulder losing the rain protection.

If it rains... I will get wet. Even though I have an original tan groundsheet... ![]()
