Came across these on ebay

I'm intrigued to know where they would have come from, and why anyone would need red battledress.
Hehe. Well it isn't red serge - the whole trouser has been dyed post-manufacture. I'd wager nothing to do with the war and everything to do with a 1960's teenager being creative!
Conclusive proof of a British Commando mission to knock out German Radar Stations on Mars.
Weren't German and Italian POWs issued BD dyed bright red?
Dyed black I think!
Edit: oooh, some Italians brown or green: http://hansard.millbanksystems.com/writ ... ers-of-war
Germans, black with red flashes: http://www.khakidevil.co.uk/Museum%20Exhibits.html
I'm sure other colours/shapes of patches were used too.

Ahhh I hadn't even considered the possibility that they could have been altered post war. Thanks

A lot just had PW (or POW, or even just P) stencilled on in white paint.
One of the few POW uniforms I've seen in the flesh was dyed black Brit BD with a diamond shaped hole cut out of it, and the red flash stitched on the inside to show through, presumably so that they couldn't just take the patch off.
